Time-resolved radiation chemistry: photoelectron imaging of transient negative ions of nucleobases.

TL;DR: Time-resolved photoelectron imaging has been utilized to probe the energetics and dynamics of the transient negative ion of the nucleobase uracil, which was created through charge transfer from an iodide anion within a binary iodide-uracil complex using a UV pump pulse.

Wavelength Dependence of UV Photoemission from Solvated Electrons in Bulk Water, Methanol, and Ethanol

TL;DR: The results suggest that the solvated electrons are created predominantly in the bulk and that VBEs measured using UV photoemission spectroscopy of liquids generally require energy corrections to account for inelastic scattering effects.

DNA protection by ectoine from ionizing radiation: molecular mechanisms.

TL;DR: The first electron irradiation of DNA in a fully aqueous environment in the presence of ectoine and at high salt concentrations is presented, demonstrating effective protection of DNA by ectoine against the induction of single-strand breaks by ionizing radiation.

Gamma and ion-beam irradiation of DNA: Free radical mechanisms, electron effects, and radiation chemical track structure

TL;DR: This work compares the results of low LET (γ-) and high LET (ion-beam) radiation to develop a chemical track structure model for ion-beam radiation damage to DNA to exhibit a radical signature of excitations in 5-methylcytosine cation radical.

Sequence dependence of electron-induced DNA strand breakage revealed by DNA nanoarrays

TL;DR: The present results suggest the development of targeted radiosensitizers for cancer radiation therapy by determining the absolute strand break cross sections for electron induced single strand breaks in specific 13 mer oligonucleotides.

Resonant Formation of DNA Strand Breaks by Low-Energy (3 to 20 eV) Electrons

TL;DR: It is shown that reactions of such electrons, even at energies well below ionization thresholds, induce substantial yields of single- and double-strand breaks in DNA, which are caused by rapid decays of transient molecular resonances localized on the DNA's basic components.
