TLDR
Results indicated a marked hepatoprotective effect of Picroliv in terms of biochemical markers, and a significant antileishmanial activity implying that it can be utilized as an adjunct to chemotherapy or in combination therapy of kala azar along with sodium stibogluconate, thus enhancing the efficacy of antileishesmanials.

A review of natural products with antileishmanial activity

TL;DR: A review of the literature on plant extracts and chemically defined molecules of natural origin showing antileishmanial activity and some aspects of recent antileishesmanial-activity-directed research on natural products are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Clinical and Experimental Advances in Treatment of Visceral Leishmaniasis

TL;DR: If the initial Th1-cell-associated immune response fails to develop or its effector mechanisms are disabled or not properly maintained, recently acquired kala-azar evolves to full expression as a subacute or chronic illness for which treatment is required.
Journal ArticleDOI

Plant derived therapeutics for the treatment of Leishmaniasis.

TL;DR: An overview of the current status of available leishmanicidal plant derived compounds that are effective singly or in combination with conventional anti-leishmanial drugs, yet are non toxic to mammalian host cells is provided.
Journal ArticleDOI

Leishmaniasis phytotherapy. Nature's leadership against an ancient disease

TL;DR: This work highlights some of these agents, while trying to emphasize the importance of plants as a source of new and powerful drugs against this widespread disease of Leishmaniasis.

Assay for lipid peroxides in animal tissues by thiobarbituric acid reaction

TL;DR: Using this method, the liped peroxide level in the liver of rats suffering from carbon tetrachloride intoxication was investigated and was in good agreement with previously reported data obtained by measuring diene content.

Tissue fractionation studies. 6. Intracellular distribution patterns of enzymes in rat-liver tissue

TL;DR: The results are shown to favour the ferryl ion structure, or an isomer of this structure, for the higher oxidation state, and theHigher oxidation state may provisionally be named ferrylmyoglobin.
