Surface roughness measurement by means of speckle wavelength decorrelation

TL;DR: In this article, the authors exploit speckle wavelength decorrelation techniques for the characterization of surface roughness up to a few microns, using an argon laser, a grating, two photodetectors, and a commercial cross correlator.
Journal ArticleDOI

Digital Terrain Modeling and Industrial Surface Metrology: Converging Realms

TL;DR: In this article, the authors introduce industrial surface metrology, examines the field in the context of terrain modeling a.k.a. surface topography of manufactured components, exemplified by automobile-engine cylinders, is routinely modeled by variogram analysis, relief shading, and most other techniques of parameterization and visualization familiar to geography.
Journal ArticleDOI

Interdependence of Amplitude Roughness Parameters on Rough Gaussian Surfaces

TL;DR: The numerical analysis of 17 standardized amplitude roughness parameters collected from 90000 computer-generated rough surfaces revealed so far undetected interdependencies among some of these parameters, namely the results show a strong linear relation between 12 amplituderoughness parameters.
Journal ArticleDOI

Digital terrain modelling and industrial surface metrology — converging crafts

TL;DR: This paper introduces terrain modelling and compares it with metrology, noting their differences and similarities and one of the many issues common to both disciplines.
Journal ArticleDOI

Nano-metrology and terrain modelling - convergent practice in surface characterisation

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors introduce terrain modelling, discuss its similarities to and differences from industrial surface metrology, and raise the possibility of a unified discipline of quantitative surface characterisation, and exemplify a multivariate statistical procedure that may transfer to tribological applications of 3-D metrological height data.

The new method of free form surface honing

B. Nowicki, +1 more
- 01 Jan 1993 -
TL;DR: In this article, the authors have elaborated the non-conventional method of honing which enables to place the profiling and the finishing one the same machine tool, which is suitable for machining parts of various plasticity.
Journal ArticleDOI

The analysis of profile strata for surface texture specification

TL;DR: In this paper, a classification system for stratified surfaces is proposed and methods for analysis are presented. And the concepts of stratified surface are discussed using both theoretical and experimental examples, and it is shown that these data analysis techniques are far more useful for the specification of engineering surfaces than is the usual technique of reporting parameters obtained from analysis of surface profiles as a whole.
Journal ArticleDOI

The effect of humidity and electrical fields upon the wear of high density polyethylene and polytetrafluoroethylene

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of atmospheric humidity and small external electrical fields on the wear characteristics of polyethylene and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) bearing materials were examined.
Journal ArticleDOI

Bulk and surface stoichiometry of vapor grown mercuric iodide crystals

TL;DR: In this paper, the stoichiometry of HgI 2 is reviewed as a function of various stages of preparation including synthesis, purification, crystal growth and ending with device fabrication, and the results are discussed in relation with deviation from stochastic geometry.
Journal ArticleDOI

Morphological kinetics and distribution in somatic embryo cultures.

TL;DR: A continuous descriptor using the distributions of magnitude of features representing morphological characteristics and size information was used to describe the developing embryo populations, and the features showing the highest statistical significance were related to those corresponding to the roughness.
