Random-Field Instability of the Ordered State of Continuous Symmetry

TLDR
In this article, it was shown that when the order parameter has a continuous symmetry, the ordered state is unstable against an arbitrarily weak random field in less than four dimensions and the borderline dimensionality above which mean-field-theory results hold is six.Abstract:
Phase transitions are considered in systems where the field conjugate to the order parameter is static and random. It is demonstrated that when the order parameter has a continuous symmetry, the ordered state is unstable against an arbitrarily weak random field in less than four dimensions. The borderline dimensionality above which mean-field-theory results hold is six. (auth)read more

Flux creep in high-Tc superconductors: melting or thermal depinning?
TL;DR: A number of different theories have been advanced to account for the low critical currents found experimentally in the various copper oxide superconductors, particularly the layered compounds based on Bi and Tl at temperatures above 40 K.

Phase transitions and quantum effects in adsorbed monolayers
TL;DR: In this paper, the phase transition in absorbed (two-dimensional) fluids and in absorbed layers of linear molecules are studied with a combination of path integral Monte Carlo (PIMC), Gibbs ensemble Monte Carlo, and finite size scaling techniques.

Monte Carlo Studies of “Random” Systems
Kurt Binder,Dietrich Stauffer +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors consider randomness in the exchange interaction, in the anisotropy, and in the field coupling to the order parameter, and show that these properties can be used to describe random magnetic systems with structural disorder.

Comments on the Random Thirring Model
TL;DR: In this article, a translationally invariant generalisation of the SYK model to 1+1 dimensions is presented, where the couplings contain both irrelevant and relevant marginal operators, but statistically, in the large N limit, the random couplings are overall always marginally irrelevant.

Soft Modes and Relaxor Ferroelectrics
TL;DR: In this article, the TASP spectrometer at PSI was used to study the elastic scattering properties of relaxor ferroelectrics and the results showed that at low energy scattering there is an acoustic mode, an optic mode, dynamic quasi-elastic and strictly elastic scattering as well as Bragg peaks at the zone center.
