Random-Field Instability of the Ordered State of Continuous Symmetry

TLDR
In this article, it was shown that when the order parameter has a continuous symmetry, the ordered state is unstable against an arbitrarily weak random field in less than four dimensions and the borderline dimensionality above which mean-field-theory results hold is six.
Abstract
Phase transitions are considered in systems where the field conjugate to the order parameter is static and random. It is demonstrated that when the order parameter has a continuous symmetry, the ordered state is unstable against an arbitrarily weak random field in less than four dimensions. The borderline dimensionality above which mean-field-theory results hold is six. (auth)

Compositional heterogeneity and the origins of the multicell cubic state in Sn‐doped lead zirconate titanate ceramics

TL;DR: In this article, a systematic study of Sn-doped lead zirconate titanate ceramics has been carried out as a function of Sn and Ti contents, and the dielectric constant and remanent polarization measurements have been performed and compared to our recent transmission electron microscopy study.

Fractional and integer quantum Hall effects in the zeroth Landau level in graphene

TL;DR: In this paper, the energy gap at integer fillings ν = 0a ndν =− 1, as a function of magnetic field, and the possibility that valley skyrmions may account for the smaller energy gaps observed at ν=− 1.

Surface condensation of a pioneer transcription factor on DNA

TL;DR: Polymer surface mediated condensation reconciles several observations that were previously thought to be at odds with the idea of phase separation as an organizing principle in the nucleus.

Modulated phases, memory effect and defect density waves in thiourea

TL;DR: In this article, a variety of recent experimental and theoretical results on thiourea, a compound known for the richness of its phase diagram, are reviewed, and a continuum approach is particularly well suited to understand the modulated phases and the commensurate lock-ins in this compound.

Quantum engine based on many-body localization

TL;DR: In this paper, an athermality of many-body-localized (MBL) systems is harnessed for thermodynamic tasks, and an Otto engine cycle for a quantum MBL system is proposed.
