Microbial Surface Colonization and Biofilm Development in Marine Environments

TL;DR: Recent progress in the study of marine microbial surface colonization and biofilm development is synthesized and discussed and questions are posed for targeted investigation of surface-specific community-level microbial features to advance understanding ofsurface-associated microbial community ecology and the biogeochemical functions of these communities.
Journal ArticleDOI

Occurrence and abundance of 6-methyl branched glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraethers in soils : Implications for palaeoclimate reconstruction

TL;DR: In this article, the authors quantified the fractional abundance of 6-methyl brGDGTs in globally distributed soils and showed that they are abundant components, comprising on average 24% of the total amount of brDGTs.
Journal ArticleDOI

The effect of improved chromatography on GDGT-based palaeoproxies

TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented a method based on two ultra-high performance liquid chromatography silica columns capable of separating a wide range of GDGTs with good resolution and which compares favorably with previously published methods.

Southern ocean warming, sea level and hydrological change during the Paleocene-Eocene thermal maximum

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors identify the so-called "Paleocene-Eocene thermal maximum" (PETM) in a marine sedimentary sequence deposited on the East Tasman Plateau at Ocean Drilling Program (ODP) Site 1172 and show, based on the organic paleothermometer TEX86, that southwest Pacific sea surface temperatures increased from ~26 °C to ~33°C during the PETM.

Assessing biomarker syngeneity using branched alkanes with quaternary carbon (BAQCs) and other plastic contaminants

TL;DR: In this article, the authors studied the distribution of hydrocarbons in 26 rocks from different locations in the world, including three examples from the Paleoproterozoic Tawallah and McArthur Groups in northern Australia.
Journal ArticleDOI

Absence of seasonal patterns in MBT-CBT indices in mid-latitude soils

TL;DR: The degree of methylation and cyclization of bacteria-derived branched glycerol dialkyl glyceroline tetraether (GDGT) membrane lipids in soils depends on temperature and soil pH as discussed by the authors.

Reconstruction of sea surface temperature variations in the Arabian Sea over the last 23 kyr using organic proxies (TEX86 and U37K

TL;DR: In this article, a comparison of NIOP905 and 74KL core top data with present-day SST (0-10 m) values indicates that both proxies yield temperatures similar to local annual mean SSTs.
