TLDR
In this paper, a meta-analytic study showed that transformational leadership was positively related to individual-level follower performance across criterion types, with a stronger relationship for contextual performance than for task performance across most study settings.
Abstract
Although transformational leadership has been studied extensively, the magnitude of the relationship between transformational leadership and follower performance across criterion types and levels of analysis remains unclear. Based on 117 independent samples over 113 primary studies, the current meta-analytic study showed that transformational leadership was positively related to individual-level follower performance across criterion types, with a stronger relationship for contextual performance than for task performance across most study settings. In addition, transformational leadership was positively related to performance at the team and organization levels. Moreover, both meta-analytic regression and relative importance analyses consistently showed that transformational leadership had an augmentation effect over transactional leadership (contingent reward) in predicting individual-level contextual performance and team-level performance. Contrary to our expectation, however, no augmentation effect of t...

Ethical leadership: meta-analytic evidence of criterion-related and incremental validity.

TL;DR: It is found that EL significantly, albeit weakly in some cases, predicted task performance, citizenship behavior, and counterproductive work behavior-even after controlling for the effects of such variables as transformational leadership, use of contingent rewards, management by exception, interactional fairness, and destructive leadership.

Reviewing Leadership Styles: Overlaps and the Need for a New ‘Full‐Range’ Theory

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors review the emerging literature on these new styles, including ideological leadership, pragmatic leadership, authentic leadership, ethical leadership, spiritual leadership, distributed leadership and integrative public leadership, and argue that an integrated full-range model is necessary for research on leadership style to progress.

Transformational leadership and performance outcomes: Analyses of multiple mediation pathways

TL;DR: In this paper, five core mechanisms (affective, motivational, identification, social exchange, and justice enhancement) are identified to mediate the TFL-performance relationship, which are consistent with established social and psychological theories.

Communication and trust are key: Unlocking the relationship between leadership and team performance and creativity

TL;DR: In this article, the authors identify the intervening processes inherent in the relationship between transformational leadership and team performance and creativity and provide evidence for a sequential mediation model where leadership influences team outcomes through overall team communication and trust in teammates.

Empowering leadership: A meta-analytic examination of incremental contribution, mediation, and moderation

TL;DR: In this article, a meta-analysis investigating the effects of empowering leadership on employee work behavior is presented. But the authors focus on the individual and team levels and explore potential boundary conditions and the incremental contribution of EL over transformational leadership and leader-member exchange, concluding that both trust in leader and psychological empowerment mediated the relationships of EL with task performance, organizational citizenship behavior, and creativity.

Common method biases in behavioral research: a critical review of the literature and recommended remedies.

TL;DR: The extent to which method biases influence behavioral research results is examined, potential sources of method biases are identified, the cognitive processes through which method bias influence responses to measures are discussed, the many different procedural and statistical techniques that can be used to control method biases is evaluated, and recommendations for how to select appropriate procedural and Statistical remedies are provided.

The big five personality dimensions and job performance: a meta-analysis

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the relation of the Big Five personality dimensions (extraversion, emotional stability, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, and Openness to Experience) to three job performance criteria (job proficiency, training proficiency, and personnel data) for five occupational groups (professionals, police, managers, sales, and skilled/semi-skilled).
