TLDR
A user interface is that portion of an interactive computer system that communicates with the user as mentioned in this paper. User interfaces include any aspect of the system that is visible to the user, such as a keyboard, mouse, or display.Abstract:
A user interface is that portion of an interactive computer system that communicates with the user. Design of the user interface includes any aspect of the system that is visible to the user. Once, all computer users were specialists in computing, and interfaces consisted of jumper wires in patch boards, punched cards (q.v.) prepared offline, and batch printouts. Today a wide range of nonspecialists use computers, and keyboards, mice, and graphical displays are the most common interface hardware. The user interface is becoming a larger and larger portion of the software in a computer system--and a more important portion, as broader groups of people use computers. As computers become more powerful, the critical bottleneck in applying computer-based systems to solve problems is more often in the user interface rather than in the computer hardware or software.read more

Method and apparatus for discovering trending terms in speech requests
TL;DR: In this article, a system and processes for discovering trending terms in automatic speech recognition are disclosed for detecting trending terms (e.g., words, phrases, etc.) not yet found in a speech recognizer vocabulary or having low language model probability.

Flexible billing architecture
TL;DR: In this paper, a flexible billing system is proposed to capture communication events on a more granular level then current communication systems, which can then be aggregated into different event categories and combined with other event parameters to provide a wider variety of billing options.

Systems and methods for using touch input to move objects to an external display and interact with objects on an external display
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a system that allows the movement of windows or other user interface objects back and forth between a touch screen display and a non-touch display using only touch inputs.

User as an end point for profiling and optimizing the delivery of content and data in a wireless network
Michael Luna,Ross Bott +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a method of content consumption based resource allocation to a user in a wireless network is presented, which can be implemented on a system including, tracking content consumption in sessions of mobile usage for a user, aggregating or computing statistical data related to the content consumption, and facilitating control of the resource allocated to the user in the wireless network based on the statistical data.

Method and apparatus for navigating a hierarchical menu based user interface
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a method for displaying a user interface including one or more menu elements, wherein each menu element is associated with a row of content titles that may be displayed by the user interface and detecting an input command associated with the menu element.

Direct Manipulation: A Step Beyond Programming Languages
TL;DR: As I talked with enthusiasts and examined the systems they used, I began to develop a model of the features that produced such delight, and the central ideas seemed to be visibility of the object of interest; rapid, reversible, incremental actions; and replacement of complex command language syntax by direct manipulation of the objects of interest.

Direct manipulation interfaces
TL;DR: A cognitive account of both the advantages and disadvantages of direct manipulation interfaces is sought and two underlying phenomena that give rise to the feeling of directness of manipulation are identified.
