TLDR
A user interface is that portion of an interactive computer system that communicates with the user as mentioned in this paper. User interfaces include any aspect of the system that is visible to the user, such as a keyboard, mouse, or display.Abstract:
A user interface is that portion of an interactive computer system that communicates with the user. Design of the user interface includes any aspect of the system that is visible to the user. Once, all computer users were specialists in computing, and interfaces consisted of jumper wires in patch boards, punched cards (q.v.) prepared offline, and batch printouts. Today a wide range of nonspecialists use computers, and keyboards, mice, and graphical displays are the most common interface hardware. The user interface is becoming a larger and larger portion of the software in a computer system--and a more important portion, as broader groups of people use computers. As computers become more powerful, the critical bottleneck in applying computer-based systems to solve problems is more often in the user interface rather than in the computer hardware or software.read more

Distraction bookmarks for live and recorded video
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a system for detecting a distraction event during presentation of a media content via a display device, creating a digital bookmark for the media content, whereby the digital bookmark corresponds to the detected distraction event, and outputting a user interface for presenting the digital book through the display device.

Image display device and information input device
TL;DR: In this paper, an information processing device is provided, which includes at least one electrode configured to generate a signal related to eye blinking of a subject; and a processing circuit configured to receive the signal and detect eye blinking based on the signal.

Systems and methods for performing haptic conversion
Robert W. Heubel,Danny A. Grant +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors described a method for haptic conversion based on a characteristic of a target user interface device having a target haptic output device, determining a source haptic effect associated with a source user interface devices having a source HIs, and generating a haptic signal associated with the target HIs.

System and method for virtual user interface controls in multi-display configurations
TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe methods, devices, and computer program products for virtual user interface control in multi-display configurations, where the first image of the screen is not containing a touch-sensitive user interface.

Direct Manipulation: A Step Beyond Programming Languages
TL;DR: As I talked with enthusiasts and examined the systems they used, I began to develop a model of the features that produced such delight, and the central ideas seemed to be visibility of the object of interest; rapid, reversible, incremental actions; and replacement of complex command language syntax by direct manipulation of the objects of interest.

Direct manipulation interfaces
TL;DR: A cognitive account of both the advantages and disadvantages of direct manipulation interfaces is sought and two underlying phenomena that give rise to the feeling of directness of manipulation are identified.
