TLDR
A user interface is that portion of an interactive computer system that communicates with the user as mentioned in this paper. User interfaces include any aspect of the system that is visible to the user, such as a keyboard, mouse, or display.Abstract:
A user interface is that portion of an interactive computer system that communicates with the user. Design of the user interface includes any aspect of the system that is visible to the user. Once, all computer users were specialists in computing, and interfaces consisted of jumper wires in patch boards, punched cards (q.v.) prepared offline, and batch printouts. Today a wide range of nonspecialists use computers, and keyboards, mice, and graphical displays are the most common interface hardware. The user interface is becoming a larger and larger portion of the software in a computer system--and a more important portion, as broader groups of people use computers. As computers become more powerful, the critical bottleneck in applying computer-based systems to solve problems is more often in the user interface rather than in the computer hardware or software.read more

Storing and reading multiplexed content
TL;DR: In this article, a method for displaying content stored in a block of multiplexed content, including a plurality of instances of content where each instance of content includes an associated content identifier, is described.

Object shadowing in head worn computing
TL;DR: In this article, a second head worn computing system (HWC) in close proximity to a first HWC was identified by comparing a geo-spatial location of each of the first and second HWCs, determining that the viewing angles that are substantially aligned, of opposite direction and positioned such that they are predicted to be facing each other.

Method system and software for providing image sensor based human machine interfacing
TL;DR: In this article, a method system and associated modules and software components for providing image sensor based human machine interfacing (IBHMI) are described, which can emulate a keyboard, a mouse, a joystick, a touchpad or any other interface device compatible, suitable or congruous with the computing platform on which the first application is running.

Direct Manipulation: A Step Beyond Programming Languages
TL;DR: As I talked with enthusiasts and examined the systems they used, I began to develop a model of the features that produced such delight, and the central ideas seemed to be visibility of the object of interest; rapid, reversible, incremental actions; and replacement of complex command language syntax by direct manipulation of the objects of interest.

Direct manipulation interfaces
TL;DR: A cognitive account of both the advantages and disadvantages of direct manipulation interfaces is sought and two underlying phenomena that give rise to the feeling of directness of manipulation are identified.
