TLDR
A user interface is that portion of an interactive computer system that communicates with the user as mentioned in this paper. User interfaces include any aspect of the system that is visible to the user, such as a keyboard, mouse, or display.Abstract:
A user interface is that portion of an interactive computer system that communicates with the user. Design of the user interface includes any aspect of the system that is visible to the user. Once, all computer users were specialists in computing, and interfaces consisted of jumper wires in patch boards, punched cards (q.v.) prepared offline, and batch printouts. Today a wide range of nonspecialists use computers, and keyboards, mice, and graphical displays are the most common interface hardware. The user interface is becoming a larger and larger portion of the software in a computer system--and a more important portion, as broader groups of people use computers. As computers become more powerful, the critical bottleneck in applying computer-based systems to solve problems is more often in the user interface rather than in the computer hardware or software.read more

Image processing apparatus, image processing method, and program for facilitating an input operation by a user in response to information displayed in a superimposed manner on a visual field of the user
TL;DR: In this article, an image processing device including a superimposition display position determining unit which determines a position of an object having a predetermined flat surface or curved surface out of the object imaged in an input image based on an environment map is provided.

Deregulating Relevancy in Internet Trademark Law
TL;DR: The authors examines the complex world of Internet search from the perspectives of searchers, publishers, and search providers, showing that search providers actively mediate the relationship between searchers and publishers, often modifying searcher keywords and publisher content to facilitate a match.

Ground plane adjustment in a virtual reality environment
TL;DR: In this article, the ground plane of a rendered virtual reality environment is adjusted to match the flat real world floor so that the user can move around to navigate and explore the environment and always be properly located on the virtual ground and not be above it or underneath it.

Direct Manipulation: A Step Beyond Programming Languages
TL;DR: As I talked with enthusiasts and examined the systems they used, I began to develop a model of the features that produced such delight, and the central ideas seemed to be visibility of the object of interest; rapid, reversible, incremental actions; and replacement of complex command language syntax by direct manipulation of the objects of interest.

Direct manipulation interfaces
TL;DR: A cognitive account of both the advantages and disadvantages of direct manipulation interfaces is sought and two underlying phenomena that give rise to the feeling of directness of manipulation are identified.
