TLDR
A new pollen record of the penultimate interglacial complex, corresponding approximately to marine isotope stage (MIS) 7 (ca 186,000-245,000 years before present), has been generated in core I-284 from the Ioannina basin in northwest Greece as discussed by the authors.

A 600,000 year long continental pollen record from Lake Van, eastern Anatolia (Turkey)

TL;DR: The longest continuous continental pollen record of the Quaternary in the entire Near East and central Asia obtained to date is presented in this paper, which is based on a well-dated composite profile drilled on the so-called Ahlat Ridge.
Journal ArticleDOI

Iron mineralogical proxies and Quaternary climate change in SE-European loess-paleosol sequences

TL;DR: In this article, the Batajnica/Stari Slankamen and Mircea Voda sites were studied by a multi-proxy approach based on iron mineralogical parameters.
Journal ArticleDOI

Quaternary disappearance of tree taxa from Southern Europe: timing and trends

TL;DR: In this article, a review of the Quaternary distribution and extirpation of tree populations from Southern Europe is presented, where a hundred pollen and plant macrofossil records from the Iberian Peninsula, Southern France, the Italian Peninsula, Greece and the southwestern Black Sea area formed the basis for a review.

Climate and atmospheric history of the past 420,000 years from the Vostok ice core, Antarctica

TL;DR: The recent completion of drilling at Vostok station in East Antarctica has allowed the extension of the ice record of atmospheric composition and climate to the past four glacial-interglacial cycles.

Insolation values for the climate of the last 10 million years

TL;DR: In this article, new values for the astronomical parameters of the Earth's orbit and rotation (eccentricity, obliquity and precession) are proposed for paleoclimatic research related to the Late Miocene, the Pliocene and the Quaternary.

Age dating and the orbital theory of the ice ages: Development of a high-resolution 0 to 300,000-year chronostratigraphy

TL;DR: Using the concept of "orbital tuning", a continuous, high-resolution deep-sea chronostratigraphy has been developed spanning the last 300,000 yr as mentioned in this paper.

Determination of carbonate and organic matter in calcareous sediments and sedimentary rocks by loss on ignition; comparison with other methods

TL;DR: In this article, a modified ignition loss method is described for determining organic and carbonate carbon in calcareous sedimentary materials using equipment found in most laboratories and has been found to equal or excel the accuracy and precision of other methods tested and has the advantage of being considerably faster if large numbers of samples are to be analyzed.
