This paper presents an overview of the RF-EHNs including system architecture, RF energy harvesting techniques, and existing applications, and explores various key design issues according to the network types, i.e., single-hop networks, multiantenna networks, relay networks, and cognitive radio networks.Abstract:
Radio frequency (RF) energy transfer and harvesting techniques have recently become alternative methods to power the next-generation wireless networks As this emerging technology enables proactive energy replenishment of wireless devices, it is advantageous in supporting applications with quality-of-service requirements In this paper, we present a comprehensive literature review on the research progresses in wireless networks with RF energy harvesting capability, which is referred to as RF energy harvesting networks (RF-EHNs) First, we present an overview of the RF-EHNs including system architecture, RF energy harvesting techniques, and existing applications Then, we present the background in circuit design as well as the state-of-the-art circuitry implementations and review the communication protocols specially designed for RF-EHNs We also explore various key design issues in the development of RF-EHNs according to the network types, ie, single-hop networks, multiantenna networks, relay networks, and cognitive radio networks Finally, we envision some open research directionsread more

Sustainable energy harvesting technologies – past, present and future
TL;DR: The intuition behind the adjusted distance is illustrated using the example network example from Fig. 6, where a node with a consistent computational state has a neighbour to which it can forward an observation but if the state is inconsistent, then all neighbours have longer energy-adjusted distances to the base station and it does not make sense toForward an observation to any of these neighbours.

A queueing model of an energy harvesting sensor node with data buffering
TL;DR: This work proposes and analyses a Markovian queueing system to study the impact of uncertainty in energy harvesting, energy expenditure, data acquisition and data transmission, and illustrates the approach by numerical examples which show that energy harvesting correlation considerably affects performance measures like the mean data delay and the effective data collection rate.

Security and reliability performance analysis for two-way wireless energy harvesting based untrusted relaying with cooperative jamming
TL;DR: It is found that jammer's artificial noise distribution plays a paramount role in the secrecy performance of the considered system, where a source-destination pair establishes secured communication through a wireless-powered untrusted amplify-and-forward relay while employing a friendly jammer.

Network information flow
TL;DR: This work reveals that it is in general not optimal to regard the information to be multicast as a "fluid" which can simply be routed or replicated, and by employing coding at the nodes, which the work refers to as network coding, bandwidth can in general be saved.
