TL;DR: A meta-analysis of genome-wide association studies of T1D DN revealed association of two SNPs with ESRD in the AFF3 gene and an intergenic SNP on chromosome 15q26 between the genes RGMA and MCTP2, which represent new signals in the pathogenesis of DN.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genome-wide scan for type 1 diabetic nephropathy in the Finnish population reveals suggestive linkage to a single locus on chromosome 3q.
Anne-May Österholm,Bing He,Janne Pitkäniemi,L. Albinsson,T. Berg,Cinzia Sarti,J. Tuomilehto,Karl Tryggvason +7 more
TL;DR: A two-stage genome-wide scan to search for chromosomal loci containing susceptibility genes for nephropathy in patients with type 1 diabetes suggests the locus on 3q most likely has a susceptibility gene for DN.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: The GEnetics of Nephropathy-an International Effort (GENIE) consortium as discussed by the authors examined previously reported genetic associations with diabetic nephropathy (DN) in type 1 diabetes.

TL;DR: This study suggests novel pathways and molecular mechanisms for the pathogenesis of albuminuria in type 1 diabetes as well as identifying natural killer cell mediated immunity processes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Glcci1 Deficiency Leads to Proteinuria
Yukino Nishibori,Kan Katayama,Mataleena Parikka,Asmundur Oddsson,Masatoshi Nukui,Kjell Hultenby,Annika Wernerson,Bing He,Lwaki Ebarasi,Elisabeth Raschperger,Jenny Norlin,Mathias Uhlén,Jaakko Patrakka,Christer Betsholtz,Karl Tryggvason +14 more
TL;DR: Mouse glomeruli express far greater amounts of Glcci1 protein compared with the rest of the kidney, and RT-PCR and Western blotting demonstrated that mouse glomerular Glcci 1 is approximately 60 kD and localizes to the cytoplasm of podocytes in matureglomeruli.
