Sequence and analysis of chromosome 4 of the plant Arabidopsis thaliana

Klaus F. X. Mayer, +233 more
- 16 Dec 1999 -
TL;DR: Analysis of 17.38 megabases of unique sequence, representing about 17% of the Arabidopsis genome, reveals 3,744 protein coding genes, 81 transfer RNAs and numerous repeat elements.
Journal ArticleDOI

Robertson's Mutator transposons in A. thaliana are regulated by the chromatin-remodeling gene Decrease in DNA Methylation (DDM1)

TL;DR: DNA transposons in plants appear to be regulated by chromatin remodeling, and gene silencing and paramutation are also regulated by DDM1, providing support for the proposition that epigenetic silencing is related to transposon regulation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Differential methylation of genes and retrotransposons facilitates shotgun sequencing of the maize genome

TL;DR: It is shown here that repeat sequences in maize are largely excluded from genomic shotgun libraries by the selection of an appropriate host strain because of their sensitivity to bacterial restriction-modification systems, and that repeats, and not genes, are the primary targets of methylation in maize.
Journal ArticleDOI

The essential Mcm7 protein PROLIFERA is localized to the nucleus of dividing cells during the G(1) phase and is required maternally for early Arabidopsis development.

TL;DR: It is shown here that PROLIFERA is specifically expressed in populations of dividing cells in sporophytic tissues of the plant body, such as the palisade layer of the leaf and founder cells of initiating flower primordia.
