Journal ArticleDOI

NAD(P)H:quinone oxidoreductase activity is increased in hippocampal pyramidal neurons of patients with alzheimer’s disease

TL;DR: It is hypothesized that the expression pattern of QR is part of a neuroprotective system up-regulated in response to the AD process, and may lead to further insights into the pathogenesis and potential new avenues of treatment for AD.
Journal ArticleDOI

Association of plasma ADMA levels with MRI markers of vascular brain injury: Framingham offspring study.

TL;DR: Higher plasma ADMA values were associated with an increased prevalence of SBIs, after adjustment for traditional stroke risk factors, suggesting ADMA may be a potentially useful new biomarker of subclinical vascular brain injury, which is an important correlate of vascular cognitive impairment and risk of stroke.
Journal ArticleDOI

Brain volume change and cognitive trajectories in aging.

TL;DR: Cognitive decline was strongly influenced by gray matter volume change and, especially, temporal lobe change, and may reflect involvement of temporal lobe structures that are critical for late life cognitive health but also are vulnerable to diseases of aging.
Journal ArticleDOI

Discriminant analysis of MRI measures as a method to determine the presence of dementia of the Alzheimer type

TL;DR: Quantitative MRI and multivariate discriminant analysis showed promise in distinguishing the dementing process from healthy aging in a group of 60 subjects.
