Journal ArticleDOI
Salpingo-oophorectomy and the Risk of Ovarian, Fallopian Tube, and Peritoneal Cancers in Women With a BRCA1 or BRCA2 Mutation
Amy Finch,Mario E. Beiner,Jan Lubinski,Henry T. Lynch,Pål Møller,Barry P. Rosen,Joan Murphy,Parviz Ghadirian,Eitan Friedman,William D. Foulkes,Charmaine Kim-Sing,Teresa Wagner,Nadine Tung,Fergus J. Couch,Dominique Stoppa-Lyonnet,Peter Ainsworth,Mary B. Daly,Barbara Pasini,Ruth Gershoni-Baruch,Charis Eng,Olufunmilayo I. Olopade,Jane McLennan,Beth Y. Karlan,Jeffrey N. Weitzel,Ping Sun,Steven A. Narod +25 more
TL;DR: Oophorectomy is associated with reduced risk of ovarian and fallopian tube cancer in high-risk women, although there is a substantial residual risk for peritoneal cancer in BRCA1 and BRCa2 mutation carriers following prophylactic salpingo-oophoreCTomy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Breast Cancer Risk Following Bilateral Oophorectomy in BRCA1 and BRCA2 Mutation Carriers: An International Case-Control Study
Andrea Eisen,Jan Lubinski,Jan Klijn,Pål Møller,Henry T. Lynch,Kenneth Offit,Barbara L. Weber,Timothy R. Rebbeck,Susan L. Neuhausen,Parviz Ghadirian,William D. Foulkes,Ruth Gershoni-Baruch,Eitan Friedman,Gadi Rennert,Teresa Wagner,Claudine Isaacs,Charmaine Kim-Sing,Peter Ainsworth,Ping Sun,Steven A. Narod +19 more
TL;DR: Oophorectomy is an effective means of reducing the risk of breast cancer in carriers of BRCA1 mutations, and the data suggest oophoreCTomy is protective in BRCa2 carriers as well, but needs to be confirmed in other studies.
Journal ArticleDOI
International variation in rates of uptake of preventive options in BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutation carriers.
Kelly A. Metcalfe,Daphna Birenbaum-Carmeli,Jan Lubinski,Jacek Gronwald,Henry T. Lynch,Pål Møller,Parviz Ghadirian,William D. Foulkes,Jan Klijn,Eitan Friedman,Eitan Friedman,Charmaine Kim-Sing,Peter Ainsworth,B. Rosen,Susan M. Domchek,T Wagner,Nadine Tung,Siranoush Manoukian,Fergus J. Couch,Ping Sun,Steven A. Narod,M. Merajver,Daniel Rayson,J. M. Collee +46 more
TL;DR: Nearly one‐half of the women at risk for breast cancer had taken no preventive option, relying solely on screening, and there were large differences in the uptake of the different preventive options by country of residence.
Journal ArticleDOI
Contralateral mastectomy and survival after breast cancer in carriers of BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations: retrospective analysis.
Kelly A. Metcalfe,Shelley Gershman,Shelley Gershman,Parviz Ghadirian,Henry T. Lynch,Carrie Snyder,Nadine Tung,Charmaine Kim-Sing,Andrea Eisen,William D. Foulkes,Barry P. Rosen,Ping Sun,Steven A. Narod +12 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that women who are positive for BRCA mutations and who are treated for stage I or II breast cancer with bilateral mastectomy are less likely to die from breast cancer than women who is treated with unilateral mastectomy.
Journal ArticleDOI
