Latitudinal limits to the predicted increase of the peatland carbon sink with warming

Angela V. Gallego-Sala, +79 more
TL;DR: This article examined the global relationship between peatland carbon accumulation rates during the last millennium and planetary-scale climate space and found a positive relationship between carbon accumulation and cumulative photosynthetically active radiation during the growing season for mid-to high-latitude peatlands in both hemispheres.
Journal ArticleDOI

Sediment and nutrient storage in a beaver engineered wetland

TL;DR: Results indicate that beaver ponds may help to mitigate the negative off‐site impacts of accelerated soil erosion and diffuse pollution from agriculturally dominated landscapes such as the intensively managed grassland in this study.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mapping upland peat depth using airborne radiometric and lidar survey data

TL;DR: In this paper, a peat depth model for Dartmoor was developed by combining LiDAR-derived metrics known to influence peat accumulation (elevation, slope, topographic wetness index (TWI)) with passive gamma-ray spectrometric survey data, shown to correlate with peat occurrence.
Journal ArticleDOI

Stakeholder perspectives on the importance of water quality and other constraints for sustainable mariculture

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors applied a semi-quantitative method (Q-method) to capture and evaluate perspectives across diverse stakeholders in order to address the overarching question: "How do stakeholders rank water quality issues and management options versus other issues and actions for ensuring the sustainability of shellfish mariculture in South West England?" Results from this regional case study were used to highlight key issues and knowledge gaps that have national and international relevance.
