Climate-driven regime shifts in the biological communities of arctic lakes

TL;DR: Fifty-five paleolimnological records from lakes in the circumpolar Arctic reveal widespread species changes and ecological reorganizations in algae and invertebrate communities since approximately anno Domini 1850, indicating that the opportunity to study arctic ecosystems unaffected by human influences may have disappeared.

TL;DR: The authors reconstructed past temperatures for seven continental-scale regions during the past one to two millennia and found that the most coherent feature in nearly all of the regional temperature reconstructions is a long-term cooling trend, which ended late in the nineteenth century.

TL;DR: The terrestrial biosphere is a key regulator of atmospheric chemistry and climate, and the overall magnitude of the biogeochemical feedback could potentially be similar to that of feedbacks in the physical climate system, but there are large uncertainties in the magnitude of individual estimates and in accounting for synergies between these effects as mentioned in this paper.
