CD166 (ALCAM): A Functional Marker of Primitive Murine and Human Hematopoietic Stem Cells and Cellular Elements of Their Niche
Brahmananda R. Chitteti,Michihiro Kobayashi,Yinghua Cheng,Peirong Hu,Bradley Poteat,Hal E. Broxmeyer,Louis M. Pelus,Melissa A. Kacena,Edward F. Srour +8 more
TL;DR: Interestingly, CD166+, but not CD166- fractions of murine and human repopulating HSC identified by a rigorous hierarchical classification for each species mediated robust long-term engraftment, suggesting that CD166 identifies long- term repopulated cells beyond what is possible with SLAM markers.
Journal ArticleDOI
The role of osteomacs in regulating stem cell function and the hematopoietic niche
Safa F. Mohamad,Joydeep Ghosh,Andrea Gunwan,Malgorzata M. Kamocka,Rachel J. Blosser,Chi Zhang,Khalid S. Mohammad,Kenneth W. Dunn,Melissa A. Kacena,Edward F. Srour +9 more
TL;DR: Intimate spatial interactions between OM, OB, MK and HSC in the hematopoietic niche are revealed and illustrate the importance of crosstalk betweenOM, OB and MK and reveal novel mediators such as CD166 and embigin that cooperate with other elements of the niche to support HSC function.
