TL;DR: The annotation and analysis of the draft genome sequence of Brassica rapa accession Chiifu-401-42, a Chinese cabbage, and used Arabidopsis thaliana as an outgroup for investigating the consequences of genome triplication, such as structural and functional evolution.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nuclear-localized cyclic nucleotide-gated channels mediate symbiotic calcium oscillations.
Myriam Charpentier,Jongho Sun,Teresa Vaz Martins,Guru V. Radhakrishnan,Kim Findlay,Eleni Soumpourou,Julien Thouin,Anne-Aliénor Véry,Dales Sanders,Richard J. Morris,Giles E. D. Oldroyd +10 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that three cyclic nucleotide–gated channels in Medicago truncatula are required for nuclear Ca2+ oscillations and subsequent symbiotic responses, and it is shown that they form a complex with the postassium-permeable channel, which modulates nuclear Ca 2+ release.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sequence and structure of Brassica rapa chromosome A3
Jeong Hwan Mun,Soo Jin Kwon,Young Joo Seol,Jin A Kim,Mina Jin,Jung Sun Kim,Myung-Ho Lim,Soo In Lee,Joon Ki Hong,Tae-Ho Park,Sang Choon Lee,Beom Jin Kim,Mi Suk Seo,Seunghoon Baek,Min Jee Lee,Ja Young Shin,Jang Ho Hahn,Yoon-Jung Hwang,Ki-Byung Lim,Jee Young Park,Jonghoon Lee,Tae-Jin Yang,Hee Ju Yu,Ik-Young Choi,Beom-Soon Choi,Su Ryun Choi,Nirala Ramchiary,Yong Pyo Lim,Fiona Fraser,Nizar Drou,Eleni Soumpourou,Martin Trick,Ian Bancroft,Andrew G. Sharpe,Isobel A. P. Parkin,Jacqueline Batley,Dave Edwards,Beom Seok Park +37 more
TL;DR: The near-complete chromosome sequence from a dicotyledonous crop species provides an example of the complexity of genome evolution following polyploidy and provides a benchmark for the performance of whole genome shotgun approaches presently being applied in B. rapa and other species with complex genomes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Functional alleles of the flowering time regulator FRIGIDA in the Brassica oleracea genome
Judith A. Irwin,Clare Lister,Eleni Soumpourou,Yanwen Zhang,Elaine C. Howell,Graham R. Teakle,Caroline Dean +6 more
TL;DR: The aim of this study was to identify and characterize orthologues of FRI in Brassica oleracea, and identify two major alleles, which appear equally functional both to each other and A. thaliana FRI, when expressed as fusions in A.Thaliana.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nucleotide polymorphism affecting FLC expression underpins heading date variation in horticultural brassicas.
TL;DR: The results suggest that breeding of brassica varieties for commercially valuable variation in heading date has been achieved through the selection of cis polymorphism at FLC, similar to that underpinning natural variation in A. thaliana.
