TL;DR: The annotation and analysis of the draft genome sequence of Brassica rapa accession Chiifu-401-42, a Chinese cabbage, and used Arabidopsis thaliana as an outgroup for investigating the consequences of genome triplication, such as structural and functional evolution.

TL;DR: It is shown that an abrupt five- to sixfold ploidy increase approximately 60 million years (Myr) ago, and allopolyploidy reuniting divergent Gossypium genomes approximately 1–2 Myr ago, conferred about 30–36-fold duplication of ancestral angiosperm genes in elite cottons, genetic complexity equalled only by Brassica among sequenced angiosperms.

Draft genome sequence of the mulberry tree Morus notabilis
Ningjia He,Chi Zhang,Xiwu Qi,Shancen Zhao,Yong Tao,Guojun Yang,Tae-Ho Lee,Xiyin Wang,Qingle Cai,Dong Li,Mengzhu Lu,Sentai Liao,Guoqing Luo,Rongjun He,Xu Tan,Yunmin Xu,Tian Li,Aichun Zhao,Ling Jia,Qiang Fu,Qiwei Zeng,Chuan Gao,Bi Ma,Jiubo Liang,Xiling Wang,Jingzhe Shang,Penghua Song,Haiyang Wu,Li Fan,Qing Wang,Qin Shuai,Juanjuan Zhu,Congjin Wei,Keyan Zhu-Salzman,Dianchuan Jin,Jinpeng Wang,Tao Liu,Maode Yu,Cuiming Tang,Zhenjiang Wang,Fanwei Dai,Jiafei Chen,Yan Liu,Shutang Zhao,Tianbao Lin,Shougong Zhang,Junyi Wang,Jian Wang,Huanming Yang,Guangwei Yang,Jun Wang,Andrew H. Paterson,Qingyou Xia,Dongfeng Ji,Zhonghuai Xiang +54 more
TL;DR: The genome of a mulberry species Morus notabilis is described, and five predicted mulberry miRNAs are found in the haemolymph and silk glands of the silkworm, suggesting interactions at molecular levels in the plant–herbivore relationship.
Journal ArticleDOI
Modes of Gene Duplication Contribute Differently to Genetic Novelty and Redundancy, but Show Parallels across Divergent Angiosperms
Yupeng Wang,Yupeng Wang,Xiyin Wang,Haibao Tang,Haibao Tang,Xu Tan,Xu Tan,Stephen P. Ficklin,F. Alex Feltus,Andrew H. Paterson +9 more
TL;DR: Genes resulting from WGD and tandem duplications diverge slowest in both coding sequences and gene expression, and contribute most to genetic redundancy, while other duplication modes contribute more to evolutionary novelty.
Journal ArticleDOI
Different patterns of gene structure divergence following gene duplication in Arabidopsis
TL;DR: This study suggests that structural divergence between duplicated genes is greatly affected by the mechanisms of gene duplication and may be not proportional to evolutionary time, and that certain gene families are under selection on rapid evolution of gene structure.
