Genome-wide association study of intracranial aneurysm identifies three new risk loci
Katsuhito Yasuno,Kaya Bilguvar,Philippe Bijlenga,Siew-Kee Low,Boris Krischek,Georg Auburger,Matthias Simon,Dietmar Krex,Zulfikar Arlier,Nikhil R. Nayak,Ynte M. Ruigrok,Mika Niemelä,Atsushi Tajima,Mikael von und zu Fraunberg,Tamás Dóczi,Florentina Wirjatijasa,Akira Hata,Jordi Blasco,Ági Oszvald,Hidetoshi Kasuya,Gulam Zilani,Beate Schoch,Pankaj Singh,Pankaj Singh,Carsten Stüer,Roelof Risselada,Jürgen Beck,Teresa Sola,Filomena Ricciardi,Arpo Aromaa,Thomas Illig,Stefan Schreiber,Cornelia M. van Duijn,Leonard H. van den Berg,Claire Perret,Carole Proust,Constantin Roder,Ali K. Ozturk,Emilia I. Gaal,Daniela Berg,Christof Geisen,Christoph M. Friedrich,Paul Summers,Alejandro F. Frangi,Alejandro F. Frangi,Matthew W. State,H.-Erich Wichmann,Monique M.B. Rinkel,Hitoshi Zembutsu,Ituro Inoue,Aarno Palotie,Aarno Palotie,François Cambien,Yusuke Nakamura,Richard P. Lifton,Murat Gunel +72 more
TL;DR: Two new loci showing strong evidence for association with intracranial aneurysms are identified and several putative risk genes play a role in cell-cycle progression, potentially affecting the proliferation and senescence of progenitor-cell populations that are responsible for vascular formation and repair.
Journal ArticleDOI
Common variant near the endothelin receptor type A (EDNRA) gene is associated with intracranial aneurysm risk
Katsuhito Yasuno,Mehmet Bakırcıoğlu,Siew-Kee Low,Kaya Bilguvar,Emilia I. Gaal,Ynte M. Ruigrok,Mika Niemelä,Akira Hata,Philippe Bijlenga,Hidetoshi Kasuya,Juha E. Rinkel,Helmuth Steinmetz,Juha Hernesniemi,Karl Lothard Schaller,Hitoshi Zembutsu,Ituro Inoue,Aarno Palotie,François Cambien,Yusuke Nakamura,Richard P. Lifton,Murat Gunel +27 more
TL;DR: The results are unique in providing genetic evidence for a significant association with IA and suggest that manipulation of the endothelin pathway may have important implications for the prevention and treatment of IA.
Journal ArticleDOI
Lateral supraorbital approach applied to olfactory groove meningiomas: experience with 66 consecutive patients.
Rossana Romani,Martin Lehecka,Emilia I. Gaal,Stefano Toninelli,Özgür Celik,Mika Niemelä,Matti Porras,Juha E. Jääskeläinen,Juha Hernesniemi +8 more
TL;DR: The lateral supraorbital approach can be used safely for olfactory groove meningiomas of all sizes with no mortality and relatively low morbidity, similar to those obtained with more extensive, complex, and time-consuming approaches.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genome-Wide Association Study of Intracranial Aneurysm Identifies a New Association on Chromosome 7
Tatiana Foroud,Dongbing Lai,Daniel L. Koller,Femke N G van 't Hof,Mitja I. Kurki,Mitja I. Kurki,Mitja I. Kurki,Craig S. Anderson,Robert D. Brown,Edward Sander Connolly,Johan G. Eriksson,Matthew L. Rinkel,Stephan Ripke,Stephan Ripke,Guy A. Rouleau,Ynte M. Ruigrok,Laura Sauerbeck,Agnieszka Slowik,Sita H. Vermeulen,Daniel Woo,Bradford B. Worrall,Joseph Broderick +44 more
TL;DR: In this article, a novel region on chromosome 7, near HDAC9, was associated with intracranial aneurysms (IA) susceptibility, and a meta-analysis was performed to combine the results from the three studies for key chromosomal regions of interest.
Journal ArticleDOI
High risk population isolate reveals low frequency variants predisposing to intracranial aneurysms
Mitja I. Kurki,Emilia I. Gaal,Johannes Kettunen,Tuuli Lappalainen,Androniki Menelaou,Verneri Anttila,Femke N G van 't Hof,Mikael von und zu Fraunberg,Seppo Helisalmi,Mikko Hiltunen,Hanna Lehto,Aki Laakso,Riku Kivisaari,Timo Koivisto,Antti Ronkainen,Jaakko Rinne,Lambertus A. Ruigrok,Gabriël J.E. Rinkel,Mika Niemelä,Juha Hernesniemi,Samuli Ripatti,Paul I.W. de Bakker,Aarno Palotie,Juha E. Jääskeläinen +34 more
TL;DR: The most promising loci (p<5E-6) were replicated in 858 Finnish sIA patients and 4,048 controls as mentioned in this paper, which may relate to, but not explain, the increased incidence of sIA-SAH in Finland.
