Advanced neuroimaging applied to veterans and service personnel with traumatic brain injury: state of the art and potential benefits
Elisabeth A. Wilde,Elisabeth A. Wilde,Sylvain Bouix,David F. Tate,Alexander P. Lin,Mary R. Newsome,Mary R. Newsome,Brian A. Taylor,Brian A. Taylor,James R. Stone,James Montier,Sam Gandy,Brian Biekman,Martha E. Shenton,Gerald E. York +14 more
TL;DR: This review surveys the use of structural and functional neuroimaging techniques utilized in military studies published to date, including the utilization of quantitative fluid attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR), susceptibility weighted imaging (SWI), volumetric analysis, diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), magnetization transfer imaging (MTI), and magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS).

TL;DR: The results show that PTSD may be associated with alterations in the broader hippocampal network, and associations between PTSD and disrupted white matter organization measured by lower fractional anisotropy in the tapetum region of the corpus callosum.
Journal ArticleDOI
Brachial Plexopathy: A Review of Traumatic and Nontraumatic Causes
TL;DR: Knowledge of brachial plexus anatomy and of the imaging sequelae of traumatic and nontraumatic plexopathies enables the radiologist to more easily identify these afflictions, thereby facilitating a multidisciplinary treatment plan and improving patient outcome.
Journal ArticleDOI
Volumetric and shape analyses of subcortical structures in United States service members with mild traumatic brain injury.
David F. Tate,David F. Tate,Benjamin S. C. Wade,Carmen S. Velez,Ann Marie Drennon,Jacob D. Bolzenius,Boris A. Gutman,Paul M. Thompson,Jeffrey D. Lewis,Elisabeth A. Wilde,Elisabeth A. Wilde,Erin D. Bigler,Martha E. Shenton,Martha E. Shenton,John L. Ritter,Gerald E. York +15 more
TL;DR: The findings may aid in the initial diagnosis of mTBI, provide biological targets for functional examination, and elucidate regions that may continue remodeling after injury.
Journal ArticleDOI
Susceptibility Weighted Imaging and White Matter Abnormality Findings in Service Members With Persistent Cognitive Symptoms Following Mild Traumatic Brain Injury.
David F. Tate,Maria Gusman,Jonathan A. Kini,Matthew W. Reid,Carmen S. Velez,Ann Marie Drennon,Douglas B. Cooper,Jan E. Kennedy,Amy O. Bowles,Erin D. Bigler,Jeffrey D. Lewis,John L. Ritter,Gerald E. York +12 more
TL;DR: Results appear to illustrate the sensitivity and specificity of SWI findings though these results did not have any significant functional impact in this cohort, and emphasize the complexity of injury and functional outcome in mTBI patients that requires additional examination.
