TL;DR: The results provide the first analysis of the global conservation status and distribution patterns of reptiles and the threats affecting them, highlighting conservation priorities and knowledge gaps which need to be addressed urgently to ensure the continued survival of the world’s reptiles.

TL;DR: The first comprehensive collection of detailed, voucher-based, point-locality, range maps for all described and documented Brazilian snakes is presented, with the major aim of mitigating the Wallacean shortfall and as a contribution towards a better understanding of this rich, threatened, and poorly studied megadiverse fauna.

TL;DR: In this paper , a comprehensive extinction risk assessment of reptiles is presented, which shows that at least 1,829 out of 10,196 species (21.1%) are threatened and represents 15.6 billion years of phylogenetic diversity.

Reptiles of Venezuela: an updated and commented checklist.
Gilson A. Rivas,César Molina,Gabriel N. Ugueto,Tito R. Barros,César L. Barrio-Amorós,Philippe J. R. Kok +5 more
TL;DR: It is estimated that the total number of species in Venezuela could exceed 400, with species of probableoccurrence in the country known to occur in Colombia, Brazil and Guyana at localities very close to the Venezuelan border and still undescribed taxa.
Journal ArticleDOI
Phylogeny of Riama (Squamata: Gymnophthalmidae), impact of phenotypic evidence on molecular datasets, and the origin of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta endemic fauna
Santiago J. Sánchez-Pacheco,Santiago J. Sánchez-Pacheco,Santiago J. Sánchez-Pacheco,Omar Torres-Carvajal,Vanessa Aguirre-Peñafiel,Pedro M. Sales Nunes,Pedro M. Sales Nunes,Laura Verrastro,Gilson A. Rivas,Miguel Trefaut Rodrigues,Taran Grant,Robert W. Murphy,Robert W. Murphy +12 more
TL;DR: Analysis of character evolution indicates that the presence/absence of prefrontals is optimally explained as having been plesiomorphically present in the most recent common ancestor of Cercosaurinae and lost in that of the immediately less inclusive clade, and proposes a monophyletic taxonomy that reflects historical relationships.
