TL;DR: The filamentous fungus Aspergillus niger is widely exploited by the fermentation industry for the production of enzymes and organic acids, particularly citric acid, and the sequenced genome revealed a large number of major facilitator superfamily transporters and fungal zinc binuclear cluster transcription factors.
Journal ArticleDOI
MetAlign 3.0: performance enhancement by efficient use of advances in computer hardware
Arjen Lommen,Harrie J. Kools +1 more
TL;DR: A new, multi-threaded version of the GC–MS and LC–MS data processing software, metAlign, has been developed which is able to utilize multiple cores on one PC, and shows that performance scales with the increase in processor core numbers the authors currently see in consumer PC hardware development.
Journal ArticleDOI
MADMAX - Management and analysis database for multiple ~omics experiments
Ke Lin,Harrie J. Kools,Philip J. de Groot,Anand Gavai,Ram Kumar Basnet,Feng Cheng,Jian Wu,Xiaowu Wang,Arjen Lommen,Guido J. E. J. Hooiveld,Guusje Bonnema,Richard G. F. Visser,Michael Müller,Jack A. M. Leunissen +13 more
TL;DR: MADMAX is designed to provide a solution for storage and analysis of complex ~omics datasets and constitutes an ISA-Tab compliant LIMS part which is independent of different analysis pipelines.
Journal ArticleDOI
Database mining and transcriptional analysis of genes encoding inulin-modifying enzymes of Aspergillus niger
Xiao-Lian Yuan,Coenie Goosen,Harrie J. Kools,Marc J. E. C. van der Maarel,Cees A. M. J. J. van den Hondel,Lubbert Dijkhuizen,Arthur F. J. Ram +6 more
TL;DR: Analysis of the genome sequence of Aspergillus niger revealed that expression of the extracellular inulinolytic enzymes is under control of the catabolite repressor CreA, and evidence is provided that sucrose, or a sucrose-derived intermediate, but not fructose, acts as an inducer for the expression of inulinoslytic genes in A. niger.
Journal ArticleDOI
A new group of exo-acting family 28 glycoside hydrolases of Aspergillus niger that are involved in pectin degradation
Elena S. Martens-Uzunova,Joris Zandleven,Jaques Alex Erwin Benen,Hanem M. Awad,Harrie J. Kools,Gerrit Beldman,Alphons G. J. Voragen,Johan A. van den Berg,Peter J. Schaap +8 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that exo-acting glycoside hydrolases play a prominent role in pectin degradation.
