TL;DR: The filamentous fungus Aspergillus niger is widely exploited by the fermentation industry for the production of enzymes and organic acids, particularly citric acid, and the sequenced genome revealed a large number of major facilitator superfamily transporters and fungal zinc binuclear cluster transcription factors.

Analysis of Aspergillus nidulans metabolism at the genome-scale
TL;DR: It is demonstrated how pathway modeling of A. nidulans can be used as an approach to improve the functional annotation of the genome of this organism, and how the metabolic model establishes functional links between genes, enabling the upgrade of the information content of transcriptome data.
