Journal ArticleDOI
Comparative Analysis of Viscosity of Complex Liquids and Cytoplasm of Mammalian Cells at the Nanoscale
Tomasz Kalwarczyk,Natalia Ziebacz,Anna Bielejewska,Ewa Zaboklicka,Kaloian Koynov,Jędrzej Szymański,Agnieszka Wilk,Adam Patkowski,Jacek Gapiński,Hans-Jürgen Butt,Robert Hołyst +10 more
TL;DR: A scaling formula for size-dependent viscosity coefficients for proteins, polymers, and fluorescent dyes diffusing in complex liquids was used to analyze the mobilities of probes of different sizes in HeLa and Swiss 3T3 mammalian cells.
Journal ArticleDOI
Scaling form of viscosity at all length-scales in poly(ethylene glycol) solutions studied by fluorescence correlation spectroscopy and capillary electrophoresis
Robert Hołyst,Anna Bielejewska,Jędrzej Szymański,Agnieszka Wilk,Adam Patkowski,Jacek Gapiński,Andrzej Zywocinski,Tomasz Kalwarczyk,Ewelina Kalwarczyk,Marcin Tabaka,Natalia Ziebacz,Stefan A. Wieczorek +11 more
TL;DR: For the smallest probes (rhodamine B and lysozyme) it is verified, using capillary electrophoresis and fluorescence correlation spectroscopy, that the Stokes-Einstein (SE) relation holds, providing that the size-dependent viscosity in the formula is used.
Book ChapterDOI
Mitochondria and Reactive Oxygen Species in Aging and Age-Related Diseases.
Carlotta Giorgi,Saverio Marchi,Ines C.M. Simoes,Ziyu Ren,Giampaolo Morciano,Mariasole Perrone,Paulina Patalas-Krawczyk,Sabine Borchard,Paulina Jędrak,Karolina Pierzynowska,Jędrzej Szymański,David Q.-H. Oliveira,Vilma A. Sardão,Paolo Pinton,Mariusz R. Wieckowski +26 more
TL;DR: An update regarding the key roles of ROS-mitochondria cross talk in different fundamental physiological or pathological situations accompanying aging is provided, highlighting that mitochondrial ROS may be a decisive target in clinical practice.
Journal ArticleDOI
Interaction of Mitochondria with the Endoplasmic Reticulum and Plasma Membrane in Calcium Homeostasis, Lipid Trafficking and Mitochondrial Structure
Jędrzej Szymański,Justyna Janikiewicz,Bernadeta Michalska,Paulina Patalas-Krawczyk,Mariasole Perrone,Wieslaw Ziolkowski,Jerzy Duszyński,Paolo Pinton,Agnieszka Dobrzyn,Mariusz R. Wieckowski +9 more
TL;DR: The physical interactions of mitochondria with the endoplasmic reticulum and plasma membrane are focused on and present knowledge regarding the role of mitochondrial-associated membranes in calcium homeostasis and lipid metabolism is summarized.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mitochondria-associated membranes in aging and senescence: structure, function, and dynamics.
Justyna Janikiewicz,Jędrzej Szymański,Dominika Malinska,Paulina Patalas-Krawczyk,Bernadeta Michalska,Jerzy Duszyński,Carlotta Giorgi,Massimo Bonora,Agnieszka Dobrzyn,Mariusz R. Wieckowski +9 more
TL;DR: The present review summarizes the current knowledge of basic MAM biology, composition and action, and discusses the potential connections supporting the idea that MAM are significant players in longevity.
