The efficacy and long-term tolerability of lamotrigine in the treatment of severe epilepsy

TL;DR: The effects of the addition of lamotrigine, a novel antiepileptic drug, to the therapy of 125 patients with severe refractory epilepsy showed a marked improvement in seizure frequency, but no patient was rendered seizure-free.

TL;DR: The lifelong course of epilepsy of an historical cohort of 235 subjects who were in residential care at the Chalfont Centre for Epilepsy is reported, finding that ageing may improve epilepsy drug responsiveness although unknown factors related to the natural history may also play a role.
