Probing the Southern Fermi Bubble in Ultraviolet Absorption Using Distant AGNs
Tanveer Karim,Tanveer Karim,Tanveer Karim,Andrew J. Fox,Edward B. Jenkins,Rongmon Bordoloi,Bart P. Wakker,Blair D. Savage,Felix J. Lockman,Steven M. Crawford,Regina A. Jorgenson,Joss Bland-Hawthorn +11 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used UV absorption-line spectra from the Cosmic Origins Spectrograph (COS) on the Hubble Space Telescope to probe the southern Fermi Bubble using a sample of 17 background AGN projected behind or near the bubble.
Journal ArticleDOI
Warm Gas and Ionizing Photons in the Local Group
TL;DR: The idea of a Local Group corona dates back at least 40 years (Kahn & Woltjer as mentioned in this paper ), and it was shown that gas at T 2-3 × 106 K (the approximate virial temperature of the Local Group) can in principle radiate a large enough flux of ionizing photons to produce detectable Hα emission from embedded neutral clouds.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Magellanic System: Stars, Gas, and Galaxies
TL;DR: The IAUS 256 Symposium on the Magellanic System (http://www.astro.keele.ac.uk/iaus256) as mentioned in this paper provides a brief overview of some key issues that came out of the Symposium.
Journal ArticleDOI

Ziegler +34 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a sample of 28 S0 galaxies extracted from the integral field spectroscopic (IFS) survey Calar Alto Legacy Integral Field Area (CALIA) was used to understand their formation scenario.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Hector - a new massively multiplexed IFS instrument for the Anglo-Australian Telescope
Julia J. Bryant,Joss Bland-Hawthorn,Jon Lawrence,Scott M. Croom,David Brown,Sudharshan Venkatesan,Peter Gillingham,Ross Zhelem,Will Saunders,Nicholas F. Staszak,Jesse van de Sande,Warrick J. Couch,Sergio G. Leon-Saval,Julia Tims,Richard M. McDermid,Adam L. Schaefer +15 more
TL;DR: Hector as discussed by the authors is a massively multiplexed integral field spectroscopy (IFS) instrument for the Anglo-Australian Telescope (AAT) in Australia and the next main dark-time observatory for the observatory.
