The 2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey: the luminosity function of cluster galaxies
Roberto De Propris,Matthew Colless,Simon P. Driver,W. J. Couch,John A. Peacock,Ivan K. Baldry,Carlton M. Baugh,Chris A. Collins,Joss Bland-Hawthorn,T. Bridges,R. D. Cannon,Shaun Cole,Nicholas C.P. Cross,Gavin Dalton,George Efstathiou,Richard S. Ellis,Carlos S. Frenk,Karl Glazebrook,Ed Hawkins,Carole Jackson,O. Lahav,Ian Lewis,Stuart Lumsden,Steve Maddox,Darren Madgwick,Peder Norberg,Will J. Percival,Bruce A. Peterson,William J. Sutherland,Keith Taylor +29 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors determined the composite luminosity function (LF) for galaxies in 60 clusters from the 2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey and found that the LF of early-type galaxies in clusters is both brighter and steeper than its field counterpart.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pregalactic metal enrichment: The chemical signatures of the first stars
TL;DR: In this article, a review of recent progress in understanding the formation of the first stars and galaxies, starting with cosmological initial conditions, primordial gas cooling, and subsequent collapse and fragmentation are reviewed.
Journal ArticleDOI
The 2dF-SDSS LRG and QSO (2SLAQ) Luminous Red Galaxy Survey
Russell D. Cannon,Michael J. Drinkwater,Alastair C. Edge,Daniel J. Eisenstein,Robert C. Nichol,P. J. Outram,Kevin A. Pimbblet,R. De Propris,Isaac Roseboom,David A. Wake,Paul D. Sadler,Tom Shanks,Rob Sharp,J. Allyn Smith,Christopher Stoughton,Peter M. Weilbacher,Robert J. Brunner,A. Meiksin,Donald P. Schneider +31 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a spectroscopic survey of almost 15,000 candidate intermediate-redshift Luminous Red Galaxies (LRGs) brighter than 19.8, observed with 2dF on the Anglo-Australian Telescope was presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
NGC 300: An Extremely Faint, Outer Stellar Disk Observed to 10 Scale Lengths
TL;DR: In this paper, the outer stellar disk of the Sculptor group galaxy NGC 300 at two locations was observed using the Gemini Multi-Object Spectrograph (GMOS) on the Gemini South 8 m telescope in exceptional conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spatially resolved star formation main sequence of galaxies in the califa survey
M. Cano-Díaz,Sebastián F. Sánchez,Stefano Zibetti,Yago Ascasibar,Joss Bland-Hawthorn,Bodo L. Ziegler,R. M. González Delgado,C. J. Walcher,R. García-Benito,D. Mast,M. A. Lopez-Sanchez,José M. Vílchez +22 more
TL;DR: In this paper, an analysis of spatially resolved properties, with integral field spectroscopic (IFS) observations of 306 galaxies from the CALIFA survey, was performed to recover the main sequence of galaxies from a spatio-temporal analysis.
