Integrated photonic spectrograph
TL;DR: In this paper, a photonic spectrograph is used for accurately measuring and displaying spectra from radiation signals received from a telescope, where the optical signals output from the single-mode optical fibres are received by an optical manipulation device in the form of an array waveguide grating which selectively combines the singlemode signals into a continuous optical spectrum.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
PRAXIS: an OH suppression optimised near infrared spectrograph
Simon Ellis,Joss Bland-Hawthorn,Svend-Marian Bauer,Scott W. Case,Thomas Fechner,Domenico Giannone,Roger Haynes,E. Hernandez,Anthony Horton,Urs Klauser,Jon Lawrence,Sergio G. Leon-Saval,Hans-Gerd Löhmannsröben,Seong-sik Min,Naveen Pai,Martin Roth,Lew Waller,Ross Zhelem +17 more
TL;DR: PRAXIS as discussed by the authors uses the same fibre Bragg gratings as GNOSIS in its first implementation, and will exploit new, cheaper and more efficient, multicore fiber Bragg grasps in the second implementation.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: MagRite as discussed by the authors fits equilibrium models to simultaneously reproduce the surface brightness, rotation, and velocity dispersion profiles of a galaxy with a Srsic profile stellar bulge, exponential disk, and parametric dark-matter halo.

The GALAH Survey: Dependence of elemental abundances on age and metallicity for stars in the Galactic disc
Sanjib Sharma,Michael R. Hayden,Joss Bland-Hawthorn,Dennis Stello,Sven Buder,Joel C. Zinn,Lorenzo Spina,Thomas Kallinger,Martin Asplund,Gayandhi M. De Silva,Valentina D'Orazi,Kenneth C. Freeman,Janez Kos,Geraint F. Lewis,Jane Lin,Karin Lind,Sarah L. Martell,Katharine J. Schlesinger,Jeffrey D. Simpson,Daniel B. Zucker,Tomaz Zwitter,Klemen Čotar,Boquan Chen,Prajwal R. Kafle,Shourya Khanna,Purmortal Wang,Robert A. Wittenmyer +26 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors explore the dependence of elemental abundances on stellar age and metallicity among Galactic disc stars and find that the abundance of most elements can be predicted from age and [Fe/H] with an intrinsic scatter of about 0.03 dex.
