Journal ArticleDOI
The 2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey: The power spectrum and the matter content of the universe
Will J. Percival,Carlton M. Baugh,Joss Bland-Hawthorn,Terry J. Bridges,Russell D. Cannon,Shaun Cole,Matthew Colless,Chris A. Collins,Warrick J. Couch,Gavin Dalton,Roberto De Propris,Simon P. Driver,George Efstathiou,Richard S. Ellis,Carlos S. Frenk,Karl Glazebrook,Carole Jackson,Ofer Lahav,Ian Lewis,Stuart Lumsden,Stephen J. Maddox,Stephen J. Moody,Peder Norberg,John A. Peacock,Bruce A. Peterson,William J. Sutherland,Keith Taylor +26 more
TL;DR: In this article, the power spectrum of the galaxy distribution was calculated using a direct FFT-based technique and the shape of the spectrum should be close to that of the linear density perturbations convolved with the window function of the 2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
PRAXIS: a near infrared spectrograph optimised for OH suppression
Simon Ellis,Svend-Marian Bauer,Joss Bland-Hawthorn,Scott Case,Thomas Fechner,Domenico Giannone,Roger Haynes,E. Hernandez,Anthony Horton,Urs Klauser,Jon Lawrence,Sergio G. Leon-Saval,Emma Lindley,Hans Gerd Löhmannsröben,Seong-sik Min,Naveen Pai,Markus Roth,K. Shortridge,Nicholas F. Staszak,Julia Tims,Pascal Xavier,Ross Zhelem +21 more
TL;DR: PRAXIS as mentioned in this paper is a unique spectrograph, currently in the build-phase, which is fed by a fibre array that removes the atmospheric emission from OH molecules, which was tested successfully on the GNOSIS instrument.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Multicore fibre technology: The road to multimode photonics
Joss Bland-Hawthorn,Seong-sik Min,Emma Lindley,Sergio G. Leon-Saval,Simon Ellis,Jon Lawrence,Nicolas Beyrand,Martin M. Roth,Hans Gerd Löhmannsröben,Sylvain Veilleux +9 more
TL;DR: The first-year goals of this project, which include multimode OH suppression fibres for the Anglo-Australian Telescope/PRAXIS instrument and the Discovery Channel Telescope/MOHSIS instrument under development at the University of Maryland, are summarized.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chemical Homogeneity in the Hyades
G. M. De Silva,Christopher Sneden,Diane B. Paulson,Martin Asplund,Joss Bland-Hawthorn,Michael S. Bessell,Kenneth C. Freeman +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, an abundance analysis of the heavy elements Zr, Ba, La, Ce, and Nd for Hyades cluster F-K dwarfs based on high resolution, high S/N ratio spectra from Keck/HIRES is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
TTF survey of galaxy populations
TL;DR: The TAURUS Tunable Filter (TTF) as discussed by the authors can detect H-alpha emission powered by star formation rates as low as 0.26 solar mass per year for the LMC.
