Spread of Artemisinin Resistance in Plasmodium falciparum Malaria

Elizabeth A. Ashley, +82 more
TL;DR: Prolonged courses of artemisinin-based combination therapies are currently efficacious in areas where standard 3-day treatments are failing, and the incidence of pretreatment and post-treatment gametocytemia was higher among patients with slow parasite clearance, suggesting greater potential for transmission.
Journal ArticleDOI

Artesunate versus quinine for treatment of severe falciparum malaria: a randomised trial.

TL;DR: Artesunate should become the treatment of choice for severe falciparum malaria in adults because it is more rapidly acting than intravenous quinine in terms of parasite clearance and is simpler to administer.
Journal ArticleDOI

Angiogenesis, assessed by platelet/endothelial cell adhesion molecule antibodies, as indicator of node metastases and survival in breast cancer.

TL;DR: The results suggest that angiogenesis is closely linked to metastasis, that it is acquired at a critical density of vessels, and that this process occurs as tumours enlarge or become more poorly differentiated.
