The Shaping of Modern Human Immune Systems by Multiregional Admixture with Archaic Humans
Laurent Abi-Rached,Matthew J. Jobin,Matthew J. Jobin,Subhash Kulkarni,A.J. McWhinnie,Klara Dalva,Loren Gragert,Farbod Babrzadeh,Baback Gharizadeh,Ma Luo,Ma Luo,Francis A. Plummer,Francis A. Guethlein,Sofia Tavoularis,Ann Margaret Little,Ann Margaret Little,Richard E. Green,Paul Norman,Peter Parham +28 more
TL;DR: Analysis of highly polymorphic human leukocyte antigen (HLA) class I, vital immune system components subject to strong balancing selection, shows how modern humans acquired the HLA-B*73 allele in west Asia through admixture with archaic humans called Denisovans, a likely sister group to the Neandertals.
Journal ArticleDOI
Report of the European Myeloma Network on multiparametric flow cytometry in multiple myeloma and related disorders
Andy C. Rawstron,Alberto Orfao,Meral Beksac,Ludmila Bezdickova,Rik A. Brooimans,Horia Bumbea,Klara Dalva,Gwenny M. Fuhler,Jan W. Weston-Bell,Roger G. Owen,Jesús F. San Miguel,Pieter Sonneveld,Hans Erik Johnsen +31 more
TL;DR: The primary clinical applications identified were: differential diagnosis of neoplastic plasma cell disorders from reactive plasmacytosis; identifying risk of progression in patients with MGUS and detecting minimal residual disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Report from the European Myeloma Network on interphase FISH in multiple myeloma and related disorders.
Fiona M Ross,Hervé Avet-Loiseau,Geneviève Ameye,Norma C. Gutiérrez,Peter Liebisch,Sheila J.M. O’Connor,Klara Dalva,Sonia Fabris,Adele M. Hermansen,Katrina Rack,Alberto Rocci,Rebecca K.M. Protheroe,Laura Chiecchio,Hélène Poirel,Pieter Sonneveld,Mette Nyegaard,Hans Erik Johnsen +29 more
TL;DR: The primary clinical applications for FISH analysis were for newly diagnosed cases of MM or frank relapse cases and prospective analysis should be centralized for upcoming trials based on the recommendations made.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of in vitro hemolysis on 25 common biochemical tests.
Doğan Yücel,Klara Dalva +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the effects of hemolysis on the results of 25 common biochemical tests were examined and the results showed that hemolysemia had the greatest effect on the lactate dehydrogenase, acid phosphatase, and potassium tests.
Journal ArticleDOI
Thrombopoietic Cytokines in Patients with Iron Deficiency Anemia with or without Thrombocytosis
TL;DR: The fact that the levels of other cytokines remained unchanged during treatment suggests that either these cytokines have no effect on reactive thrombocytosis or the change in platelet counts in patients is in a narrow range and is thus not affected by the cytokine levels.
