Genome-Wide Survey of SNP Variation Uncovers the Genetic Structure of Cattle Breeds

Richard A. Gibbs, +103 more
- 24 Apr 2009 -
TL;DR: Data show that cattle have undergone a rapid recent decrease in effective population size from a very large ancestral population, possibly due to bottlenecks associated with domestication, selection, and breed formation.
Journal Article

Association of BoLA-DRB3.2 alleles with tick (Boophilus microplus) resistance in cattle.

TL;DR: Results suggest that BoLA-DRB3.2 alleles could be used to help in the selection of animals resistant to tick infestation, and further studies involving a larger population of cattle in combination with other BoLA genes may help to understand the mechanisms of resistance to parasites.
Journal Article

DGAT1 K232A polymorphism in Brazilian cattle breeds.

TL;DR: The results could be used to guide association studies between this locus and milk traits in these breeds and to estimate the frequency of the DGAT1 K232A polymorphism in the main Zebu and Taurine breeds in Brazil as a potential QTL for marker-assisted selection.
Journal ArticleDOI

Genetic diversity of four cattle breeds using microsatellite markers

TL;DR: Four cattle breeds (Gyr, Nellore, Guzerat and Holstein) were analyzed by amplification of genomic DNA using microsatellite loci to evaluate the genetic diversity within and among them to suggest a high endogamy level among the animals sampled within each breed.
