TL;DR: A study of 456 geographically diverse high-coverage Y chromosome sequences, including 299 newly reported samples, infer a second strong bottleneck in Y-chromosome lineages dating to the last 10 ky, and hypothesize that this bottleneck is caused by cultural changes affecting variance of reproductive success among males.
Journal ArticleDOI
Southern African ancient genomes estimate modern human divergence to 350,000 to 260,000 years ago.
Carina M. Schlebusch,Carina M. Schlebusch,Helena Malmström,Helena Malmström,Torsten Günther,Per Sjödin,Alexandra Coutinho,Hanna Edlund,Arielle R. Munters,Mário Vicente,Maryna Steyn,Himla Soodyall,Marlize Lombard,Marlize Lombard,Mattias Jakobsson,Mattias Jakobsson,Mattias Jakobsson +16 more
TL;DR: The first modern human population divergence time is estimated to be between 350,000 and 260,000 years ago, which increases the deepest divergence among modern humans, coinciding with anatomical developments of archaic humans intomodern humans, as represented in the local fossil record.
Journal ArticleDOI
Population genomics of Mesolithic Scandinavia: Investigating early postglacial migration routes and high-latitude adaptation.

Svensson,Ayça Omrak,Federico Sánchez-Quinto,Gülşah Merve Kılınç,Gülşah Merve Kılınç,Gülşah Merve Kılınç,Maja Krzewińska,Gunilla Eriksson,Magdalena Fraser,Hanna Edlund,Arielle R. Netea,Jan Apel,Kerstin Lidén,Kerstin Lidén,Birgitte Skar,Jan Storå,Anders Götherström,Mattias Jakobsson +29 more
TL;DR: The authors' results suggest two different early postglacial migrations into Scandinavia: initially from the south, and later, from the northeast, which followed the ice-free Norwegian north Atlantic coast, along which novel and advanced pressure-blade stone-tool techniques may have spread.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Selective Sweep on a Deleterious Mutation in CPT1A in Arctic Populations.
Florian Clemente,Alexia Cardona,Charlotte E. Inchley,Benjamin M. Peter,Guy S. TL;DR: Evidence is provided of one of the strongest selective sweeps reported in humans that has driven this variant to high frequency in circum-Arctic populations within the last 6-23 ka despite associated deleterious consequences, possibly as a result of the selective advantage it originally provided to either a high-fat diet or a cold environment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ancient substructure in early mtDNA lineages of Southern Africa
Chiara Barbieri,Mário Vicente,Jorge Rocha,Sununguko Wata Mpoloka,Mark Stoneking,Brigitte Pakendorf +5 more
TL;DR: The phylogeny of the basal haplogroups L0d and L0k is updated with 500 full mtDNA genome sequences from 45 southern African Khoisan and Bantu-speaking populations to find previously unreported subhaplogroups and greatly extend the amount of variation and time-depth of most of the known subhaPLogroups.
