TL;DR: A high-quality draft of the genome sequence of the grey, short-tailed opossum is reported, indicating a strong influence of biased gene conversion on nucleotide sequence composition, and a relationship between chromosomal characteristics and X chromosome inactivation.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: It is found that the breadth of gene expression and the extent of purifying selection gradually decrease during development, whereas the amount of positive selection and expression of new genes increase during development.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic and environmental contributions to cardiovascular risk factors in Mexican Americans: The San Antonio Family Heart Study
Braxton D. Mitchell,Candace M. Kammerer,John Blangero,Michael C. Mahaney,David L. Rainwater,Bennett Dyke,James E. Hixson,Richard D. Henkel,R. Mark Sharp,Anthony G. Comuzzie,John L. VandeBerg,Michael P. Stern,Jean W. MacCluer +12 more
TL;DR: Among Mexican Americans from San Antonio (Tex), the relative contributions of both genetic and environmental influences to a large panel of cardiovascular risk factors, including serum levels of lipids, lipoproteins, glucose, hormones, adiposity, and blood pressure are quantified.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pedigree analysis by computer simulation
TL;DR: The gene dropping method is applied to analyses of four populations: a colony of small South American marsupials, Monodelphis domestica; Speke's gazelles, Gazella spekei; Przewalski's horses, Equus przewalkii; and American Standardbred horses.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chemerin Is Associated with Metabolic Syndrome Phenotypes in a Mexican-American Population
Kiymet Bozaoglu,David Segal,Katherine A. Shields,Nick Cummings,Joanne E. Curran,Anthony G. Comuzzie,Michael C. Mahaney,David L. Rainwater,John L. VandeBerg,Jean W. MacCluer,Greg R. Collier,John Blangero,Ken Walder,Jeremy B M Jowett +13 more
TL;DR: Chemerin is a novel adipokine previously associated with metabolic syndrome phenotypes in a small sample of subjects from Mauritius and this replicated result using a large human sample suggests that chemerin may be involved in the development of the metabolic syndrome.
