Journal ArticleDOI
Neurothrombectomy trial results: stroke systems, not just devices, make the difference
J Mocco,Kyle M Fargen,Mayank Goyal,Elad I. Levy,Peter Mitchell,Bruce C.V. Campbell,Charles B. L. M. Majoie,Diederik W.J. Dippel,Pooja Khatri,Michael D. Hill,Jeffery L Saver +10 more
TL;DR: It is hoped that, through greater education initiatives, robust resource investment, and developing quality-based certification processes, the results demonstrated by these trials may be extrapolated to greater numbers of centers – in turn allowing greater access for patients to high-quality, advanced stroke care.
Journal ArticleDOI
State of Acute Endovascular Therapy Report From the 12th Thrombolysis, Thrombectomy, and Acute Stroke Therapy Conference
Pooja Khatri,Werner Hacke,Jens Fiehler,Jeffrey L. Saver,Hans-Christoph Diener,Martin Bendszus,Serge Bracard,Joseph P. Broderick,Bruce C.V. Campbell,Alfonso Ciccone,Antoni Dávalos,Stephen M. Davis,Andrew M. Demchuk,Diederik W.J. Dippel,Geoffrey A. Donnan,David Fiorella,Mayank Goyal,Michael D. Hill,Edward C. Jauch,Tudor G Jovin,Chelsea S. Kidwell,Charles B. L. M. Tomsick,Aquilla S Turk,Philip White,Osama O. Zaidat,David S Liebeskind,Rachel Fulton,Kennedy R. Lees +36 more
TL;DR: These trials were performed during a period of rapid evolution of imaging and treatment options, and used intra-arterial thrombolysis, or first-generation device therapies at best, with little use of newer generation devices, such as stent retrievers, demonstrated to achieve significantly higher rates of recanalization.
Journal ArticleDOI
Redefined Measure of Early Neurological Improvement Shows Treatment Benefit of Alteplase Over Placebo.
Shashank Agarwal,Erica Scher,Aaron Lord,Jennifer A. Frontera,Koto Ishida,Jose Torres,Sara K. Rostanski,Eva Mistry,Brian Mac Grory,Shawna Cutting,Tina Burton,Brian Silver,Ava L. Liberman,Mackenzie P. Lerario,Karen L. Furie,James C. Grotta,Pooja Khatri,Jeffrey L. Saver,Shadi Yaghi +18 more
TL;DR: In the NINDS rt-PA trial, alteplase was associated with a significant percent change improvement in NIHSS at 24 hours and may be a better surrogate marker of thrombolytic activity and 3-month outcomes.
Journal ArticleDOI
The rate of hemicraniectomy for acute ischemic stroke is increasing in the United States.
TL;DR: The data indicate that the rate of hemicraniectomy in AIS patients in the United States has increased over the past few years, but the total number of procedures remains low.
Journal ArticleDOI
Estimated Impact of Emergency Medical Service Triage of Stroke Patients on Comprehensive Stroke Centers: An Urban Population-Based Study.
Brian Katz,Opeolu Adeoye,H. Sucharew,Joseph P. Broderick,Jason T. McMullan,Pooja Khatri,Michael J. Widener,Kathleen S Alwell,Charles J Moomaw,Brett M. Kissela,Matthew L. Flaherty,Daniel Woo,Simona Ferioli,Jason Mackey,Sharyl Martini,Sharyl Martini,Felipe De Los Rios La Rosa,Dawn Kleindorfer +17 more
TL;DR: Emergency Medical Service triage to CSCs based on stroke severity and symptom duration may be feasible, and the impact on stroke systems of care and patient outcomes remains to be determined and requires prospective evaluation.
