TL;DR: The genome duplication provided the means to improve signal transduction for enhanced perception of environmental signals and will help to understand the role of genome dynamics in the evolution of sensory perception in eukaryotes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Splitting of β-carotene in the sexual interaction of Phycomyces
TL;DR: Two new 7-carbon compounds, 1 and 2, have been found in the culture medium of Phycomyces blakesleeanus and a genetic test showed that they derive from beta-carotene.
Journal ArticleDOI
Apocarotenoids in the sexual interaction of Phycomyces blakesleeanus
Silvia Polaino,José A. González-Delgado,Pilar Arteaga,M. Mar Herrador,Alejandro F. Barrero,Enrique Cerdá-Olmedo +5 more
TL;DR: The apocarotenoids were more varied and more abundant in mated cultures of strains of opposite sex than in single cultures, and the presence of acetate in the medium blocked the production of many apoccarotenoid while having little effect on the concentrations of the remaining ones.
Journal ArticleDOI
A new genetic linkage map of the zygomycete fungus Phycomyces blakesleeanus.
TL;DR: The new map provides scaffold ordering for the genome sequence and a platform upon which to identify the genes in mutants that are affected in traits of interest, such as carotene biosynthesis, phototropism or gravitropism, using positional cloning.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Ras GTPase associated protein is involved in the phototropic and circadian photobiology responses in fungi.
Silvia Polaino,José Manuel Villalobos-Escobedo,Viplendra P. S. Shakya,Alejandro Miralles-Durán,Suman Chaudhary,Catalina Sanz,Mahdi Shahriari,Eva M. Luque,Arturo P. Eslava,Luis M. Corrochano,Alfredo Herrera-Estrella,Alexander Idnurm,Alexander Idnurm +12 more
TL;DR: MadC is unlikely to be a photosensor, yet is a fundamental link in the photoresponses from blue light perceived by the conserved White Collar complex with Ras signaling in two distantly-related filamentous fungal species.
