Journal ArticleDOI

Biological roles of fungal carotenoids.

TL;DR: F fungi have adapted their ability to produce carotenoids for different non-essential functions, related with stress tolerance or with the synthesis of physiologically active by-products.
Journal ArticleDOI

Expansion of Signal Transduction Pathways in Fungi by Extensive Genome Duplication.

Luis M. Corrochano, +74 more
- 20 Jun 2016 -
TL;DR: The genome duplication provided the means to improve signal transduction for enhanced perception of environmental signals and will help to understand the role of genome dynamics in the evolution of sensory perception in eukaryotes.
Journal ArticleDOI

The polyketide synthase gene pks4 from Gibberella fujikuroi encodes a key enzyme in the biosynthesis of the red pigment bikaverin.

TL;DR: A differential display method is used to clone a polyketide synthase gene pks4 responsible for the first step of bikaverin biosynthesis in G. fujikuroi cultures, and finds that it encoded a 2009-amino acid polypeptide consisting of four functional domains.
Journal ArticleDOI

Carotenoid Cleavage Oxygenases from Microbes and Photosynthetic Organisms: Features and Functions

TL;DR: This review focuses on CCDs from plants, algae, fungi, and bacteria, describing recent progress in their functions and regulatory mechanisms in relation to the different roles played by the apocarotenoids in these organisms.
