The genome sequence of Schizosaccharomyces pombe

Valerie Wood, +136 more
- 21 Feb 2002 -
TL;DR: The genome of fission yeast (Schizosaccharomyces pombe), which contains the smallest number of protein-coding genes yet recorded for a eukaryote, is sequenced and highly conserved genes important for eukARYotic cell organization including those required for the cytoskeleton, compartmentation, cell-cycle control, proteolysis, protein phosphorylation and RNA splicing are identified.
Journal ArticleDOI

Eukaryotic MCM Proteins: Beyond Replication Initiation

TL;DR: Analysis of mcm mutant phenotypes and interactions with other factors have implicated the MCM proteins in other chromosome transactions including damage response, transcription, and chromatin structure, indicating that the MCMs are central players in many aspects of genome stability.
Journal ArticleDOI

Basic methods for fission yeast.

TL;DR: Basic methods sufficient for a beginner in this model system to carry out most required manipulations for genetic analysis or molecular biology are presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

The fission yeast cdc18+ gene product couples S phase to START and mitosis

TL;DR: The cdc18+ gene plays a key role in coupling S phase to START and mitosis in fission yeast as discussed by the authors, and the product of the cdc 18+ gene is part of the checkpoint control that prevents mitosis from occurring until S phase is completed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparison of Schizosaccharomyces pombe expression systems

TL;DR: This work compared the activity of several inducible and constitutive expression systems in fission yeast by using a betagalactosidase reporter gene to allow a more informed choice of appropriate expression systems for analysis of gene function in S.pombe.
