TL;DR: The genome of fission yeast (Schizosaccharomyces pombe), which contains the smallest number of protein-coding genes yet recorded for a eukaryote, is sequenced and highly conserved genes important for eukARYotic cell organization including those required for the cytoskeleton, compartmentation, cell-cycle control, proteolysis, protein phosphorylation and RNA splicing are identified.
Journal ArticleDOI
The composite genome of the legume symbiont Sinorhizobium meliloti.

TL;DR: The annotated DNA sequence of the α-proteobacteriumSinorhizobium meliloti, the symbiont of alfalfa, is presented, indicating that all three elements contribute, in varying degrees, to symbiosis and reveals how this genome may have emerged during evolution.
Journal ArticleDOI
Analysis of the chromosome sequence of the legume symbiont Sinorhizobium meliloti strain 1021.
Delphine Capela,Frédérique Barloy-Hubler,Jérôme Gouzy,G. Bothe,Frédéric Ampe,Jacques Batut,P. TL;DR: The presence in this replicon of a large number of nucleotide cyclases with a peculiar structure, as well as of genes homologous to virulence determinants of animal and plant pathogens, opens perspectives in the study of this bacterium both as a free-living soil microorganism and as a plant symbiont.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: A large‐scale P element insertion screen for vital gene functions and a BAC tiling map for the X chromosome are presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: The relevance of the dog model for comparative oncology of melanomas, especially for the elucidation of non‐UV induced pathways, is supported.
