The yak genome and adaptation to life at high altitude
Qiang Qiu,Guojie Zhang,Tao Ma,Wubin Qian,Junyi Wang,Zhiqiang Ye,Chang-Chang Cao,Quanjun Hu,Jaebum Kim,Jaebum Kim,Denis M. Larkin,Loretta Auvil,Boris Capitanu,Jian Ma,Harris A. Lewin,Xiaoju Qian,Yongshan Lang,Ran Zhou,Lizhong Wang,Kun Wang,Jinquan Xia,Shengguang Liao,Shengkai Pan,Xu Lu,Haolong Hou,Yan Wang,Xuetao Zang,Ye Yin,Hui Ma,Jian Zhang,Zhaofeng Wang,Yingmei Zhang,Dawei Zhang,Takahiro Yonezawa,Masami Hasegawa,Yang Zhong,Wenbin Liu,Yan Zhang,Zhiyong Huang,Shengxiang Zhang,Ruijun Long,Huanming Yang,Jian Wang,Johannes A. Lenstra,David Neil Cooper,Yi Wu,Jun Wang,Jun Wang,Peng Shi,Jianquan Liu,Jianquan Liu +50 more
TL;DR: Positively selected and rapidly evolving genes in the yak lineage are found to be significantly enriched in functional categories and pathways related to hypoxia and nutrition metabolism, which may have important implications for understanding adaptation to high altitude in other animal species and for Hypoxia-related diseases in humans.
Journal ArticleDOI
Phylogenomics and Morphology of Extinct Paleognaths Reveal the Origin and Evolution of the Ratites
Takahiro Yonezawa,Takahiro Yonezawa,Takahiro Segawa,Takahiro Segawa,Hiroshi Mori,Paula F. Campos,Paula F. Campos,Yuichi Hongoh,Hideki Endo,Ayumi Akiyoshi,Naoki Kohno,Shin Nishida,Jiaqi Wu,Jiaqi Wu,Haofei Jin,Jun Adachi,Hirohisa Kishino,Ken Kurokawa,Yoshifumi Nogi,Hideyuki Tanabe,Harutaka Mukoyama,Kunio Yoshida,Armand H. Rasoamiaramanana,Satoshi Yamagishi,Yoshihiro Hayashi,Akira Yoshida,Hiroko Koike,Fumihito Akishinonomiya,Fumihito Akishinonomiya,Fumihito Akishinonomiya,Eske Willerslev,Masami Hasegawa,Masami Hasegawa +32 more
TL;DR: A new evolutionary scenario is proposed thatContradicts the traditional view of the origin and evolution of Palaeognathae and identifies homoplasies in morphological traits of paleognaths and reconstructed their morphology-based phylogeny including fossil species without molecular data.
Journal ArticleDOI
Complete chloroplast genome sequence of holoparasite Cistanche deserticola (Orobanchaceae) reveals gene loss and horizontal gene transfer from its host Haloxylon ammodendron (Chenopodiaceae).
Xi Li,Ti-Cao Zhang,Qin Qiao,Zhumei Ren,Jiayuan Zhao,Takahiro Yonezawa,Masami Hasegawa,M. James C. Crabbe,Jianqiang Li,Yang Zhong,Yang Zhong +10 more
TL;DR: The complete sequence of the cp genome of Cistanche deserticola, a holoparasitic desert species belonging to the family Orobanchaceae, is reported, indicating that all genes required for photosynthesis suffer from gene loss and pseudogenization, except for psbM.
Journal ArticleDOI
Molecular phylogeny of the higher and lower taxonomy of the Fusarium genus and differences in the evolutionary histories of multiple genes
Maiko Watanabe,Takahiro Yonezawa,Ken-ichi Lee,Susumu Kumagai,Yoshiko Sugita-Konishi,Keiichi Goto,Yukiko Hara-Kudo +6 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that the unique tree topologies of lys2 are not due to an analytical artefact, but due to differences in the evolutionary history of genomes caused by positive selection of particular lineages.
Journal ArticleDOI
Phylogeny and biogeography of highly diverged freshwater fish species (Leuciscinae, Cyprinidae, Teleostei) inferred from mitochondrial genome analysis
Junichi M. Imoto,Kenji Saitoh,Takeshi Sasaki,Takahiro Yonezawa,Jun Adachi,Yuri Ph. Kartavtsev,Masaki Miya,Mutsumi Nishida,Naoto Hanzawa +8 more
TL;DR: Important roles for the continental rearrangements during the Late Cretaceous to form the present-day distribution of organisms are suggested.
