Abstract: The aim of this trial was to study the digestibility of corn distiller's dried grains with soluble (DDGS) in Common carp juveniles at two water temperatures 20°C and 30°C. DDGS digestibility was determined based on the substitution of 30% of a reference diet by test DDGS. Three hundred and sixty Common carp juveniles (average weight, 40 ± 7 g) were distributed in thermo‐regulated recirculation water system equipped with twelve 1m³ fibreglass tanks (30 fish per tank), which were allotted to four experimental group in triplicates. Half of the experimental groups were maintained at 20°C, whereas the other half were exposed to 30°C. Juveniles reared under different temperature regimes were fed either of the two diets, with or without DDGS (DDGS diet or reference diet), to evaluate the interaction effect between water temperature and nutrient digestibility of corn DDGS in Common carp. Diet and water temperature interaction was effective in modulating the response of dry matter digestibility of DDGS ingredient, and digestibility was found higher in juveniles reared at 20°C compared with 30°C. Growth, feed efficiency and protein efficiency were higher at 20°C compared with 30°C. Whole body csomposition of Common carp juveniles was found unaffected due to diet and water temperature interaction. Overall, it is concluded that digestibility and growth performance of Common carp is better at 20°C compared with 30°C, and DDGS has high potential for inclusion in diets of Common carp.

Abstract: The MAPs provide opportunities for developing a variety of safe and cost effective, prophylactic, and curative medicines for a number of maladies. It is estimated that the primary health care of over 80 per cent of the world’s population still depends on plant based traditional medicines (WHO, 2002). Growing consciousness about health and side effects of modern medicines has again set the stage for innovation and use of herbal medicines. The global market for herbal products is continuously expanding and it is expected to touch the mark of US$ 5 trillion by the year 2050, from the US$ 62 billion in 2004 (Purohit and Vyas, 2004). Despite being a major player, the share of India in global trade of MAPs is merely 0.5 per cent, whereas the countries, like China exports plants and raw drugs, therapeutics and other MAPs worth Rs 18,000 crores annually. The MAPs provide opportunities for developing a variety of safe and cost effective, prophylactic, and curative medicines for a number of maladies. Formal bio-partnerships between certified farmers and Ayurvedic pharmaceutical companies, like Baidyanath Ayurved Bhawan, Patna; Ayurved Shri Herbals Ltd, Ahmedabad, Fragrance Herbs, Patna needs to be explored. The arrangement should ensure farmers with a guaranteed market and a fixed fair price for their harvest, in exchange for exclusive rights to the produce as the sole buyer. The other agencies like departments of Forest, Agriculture, Horticulture, Health and Family Welfare can come together to offer technical, market related and other input supply services to the various stake holders so that sector as a whole can grow and dependence on outside sources for primary health care is minimized. Use of farmer Interest Groups for dissemination of technology and market information can also be explored in the state.

Abstract: A field experiment was carried out on cowpea (Vigna unguiculata (L.) variety Kashi Kanchan during summer season at the experimental farm, department of Vegetable Science, College of Horticulture and Forestry, Central Agricultural University, Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh. The experiment was laid out in factorial complete randomized block design with 12 treatments i.e. three levels of phosphorus [control 0 kg(P0), 20 kg (P1) and 40 kg (P2) /ha] and four levels of bio-fertilizer [control (B0), Rhizobium10 ml/kg seed(B1), PSB 10 ml/kg seed (B2) and Rhizobium + PSB both 10 ml/kg seed (B3)] with three replications. The uniform dose of nitrogen (N) and potassium (K) @ 20 kg/ha along with 10 t/ha FYM (Farm Yard Manure) were applied to all the treatments. Result indicated that the application of P2 (40 kg P/ha) significantly increased the plant height, leaf area index, stem girth, number of nodules per plant, number of branches per plant , total dry matter, pod yield, available soil nutrient status viz., pH, N, P, K, organic carbon and NPK content in plant after harvesting. Similarly, seed inoculation with B3 (Rhizobium + PSB) significantly enhanced the growth, yield, soil nutrient status and nutrient content in plant over single inoculation of Rhizobium and PSB. Combined inoculation of seed with Rhizobium + PSB (B3) along with 40 kg P/ha (P2) significantly increased the stem girth (1.84 cm), total dry matter (13.91g/plant), green pod yield (196.37g/plant and 120.90q/ha), soil nutrient status viz., pH(6.20), available N (370.89 kg/ha), available P (38.57 kg/ha), available K (168.77 kg/ha), organic carbon (2.80%) and N, P and K (0.17%, 0.16% and 0.39%) content over rest of treatment combination.
