TL;DR: It is suggested that the collapse of a subducted seamount triggered the ascent of Si-rich fluids to vein the wedge peridotite and formed a peridOTite–pyroxenite source, causing the temporal evolution of local magmatism with wide compositional range.
Abstract: The Kamchatka Peninsula is a prominent and wide volcanic arc located near the northern edge of the Pacific Plate. It has highly active volcanic chains and groups, and characteristic lavas that include adakitic rocks. In the north of the peninsula adjacent to the triple junction, some additional processes such as hot asthenospheric injection around the slab edge and seamount subduction operate, which might enhance local magmatism. In the forearc area of the northeastern part of the peninsula, monogenetic volcanic cones dated at <1 Ma were found. Despite their limited spatiotemporal occurrence, remarkable variations were observed, including primitive basalt and high-Mg andesite containing high-Ni (up to 6300 ppm) olivine. The melting and crystallization conditions of these lavas indicate a locally warm slab, facilitating dehydration beneath the forearc region, and a relatively cold overlying mantle wedge fluxed heterogeneously by slab-derived fluids. It is suggested that the collapse of a subducted seamount triggered the ascent of Si-rich fluids to vein the wedge peridotite and formed a peridotite–pyroxenite source, causing the temporal evolution of local magmatism with wide compositional range.

TL;DR: The high precision gamma-ray spectrometer (GRS) was carried on the first Japan's large-scaled lunar explorer, SELENE (KAGUYA), successfully launched by the H-IIA rocket on Sep. 14, 2007.
Abstract: The high precision gamma-ray spectrometer (GRS) is carried on the first Japan's large-scaled lunar explorer, SELENE (KAGUYA), successfully launched by the H-IIA rocket on Sep. 14, 2007. The GRS consists of a large Ge crystal as a main detector and massive bismuth germanate crystals and a plastic scintillator as anticoincidence detectors. After a series of initial health check of the GRS, it started a regular observation on December 21, 2007. Energy spectra including many clear peaks of major elements and trace elements on the lunar surface have been measured by the GRS. Global measurement of thorium counting rate on the lunar surface is presented. The region showing the highest count rate of thorium extends from Kepler to Fra Mauro region in the Procellarum. And Apennine Bench and Aristillus region and the northwestern region of Mare Imbrium are high in thorium count rate. Second high count rate region is located in the South Pole-Aitken basin of the farside. Arago and Compton/Belkovich craters are also e...

TL;DR: In this paper, a pseudo-hexagonal twin lattice is introduced, which is the simplest and one of the most common mica polytypes and can be used for twinning by reticular pseudo-merohedry.
Abstract: 1M is the simplest and one of the most common mica polytypes Because of the special cell dimensions, twinning by reticular pseudo-merohedry is frequently observed The possible orientations of the individuals in the twin are approximately the same as the possible orientations of layers in polytypes Because of the presence of a pseudo-hexagonal twin lattice, five pairs of twin laws are possible and they give rise to five pairs of corresponding twins Thirty-one composite twins can be enumerated, which however give rise to ten different diffraction patterns In the twin lattice there are nine geometrically independent rows parallel to c*, defining a minimal rhombus in reciprocal space, which allows us to identify the ten independent patterns A larger unit of translation, called tessellation rhombus, can be built on it; by tessellation of this unit all the reciprocal space can be covered

TL;DR: In this article, a stereo-photogrammetric analysis of the MASCam images taken from slightly different positions due to commanded and unintentional movements of the Hayabusa2 lander was performed to determine the orientation for the different measurement positions.
Abstract: After its release and a descent and bouncing phase, the Hayabusa2 lander MASCOT came to a final rest and MASCOT’s camera MASCam acquired a set of images of the surface of Ryugu. With MASCam’s instantaneous field of view of about 1 mrad, the images provide pixel scales from 0.2 to 0.5 mm pixel−1 in the foreground and up to 1 cm pixel−1 for surface parts in the background. Using a stereo-photogrammetric analysis of the MASCam images taken from slightly different positions due to commanded and unintentional movements of the MASCOT lander, we were able to determine the orientation for the different measurement positions. Furthermore, we derived a 3D surface model of MASCOT’s vicinity. Although the conditions for 3D stereo processing were poor due to very small stereo angles, the derived 3D model has about 0.5 cm accuracy in the foreground at 20 cm distance and about 1.5 cm at a distance of 40–50 cm.

TL;DR: In this paper, the Hayabusa2 spacecraft has three framing cameras (ONC-T, ONC-W1, and Onc-W2) for optical navigation to asteroid 1999 JU3, which are placed on a wheel to put a selected filter for different observations, enabling multiband imaging.
