TL;DR: Results indicated that cardiac injury of COVID-2019 was rare in light and mild patients, while common in severe and critical patients, therefore, the monitoring of the heart functions of CO VID-2019 patients and applying potential interventions for those with abnormal cardiac injury related characteristics, is vital to prevent the fatality.
Abstract: Objective To investigate the correlation between clinical characteristics and cardiac injury of COVID-2019 pneumonia. Methods In this retrospective, single-center study, 41 consecutive corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-2019) patients (including 2 deaths) of COVID-2019 in Beijing Youan Hospital, China Jan 21 to Feb 03, 2020, were involved in this study. The high risk factors of cardiac injury in different COVID-2019 patients were analyzed. Computed tomographic (CT) imaging of epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) has been used to demonstrate the cardiac inflammation of COVID-2019. Results Of the 41 COVID-2019 patients, 2 (4.88%), 32 (78.05%), 4 (9.75%) and 3 (7.32%) patients were clinically diagnosed as light, mild, severe and critical cases, according to the 6th guidance issued by the National Health Commission of China. 10 (24.4%) patients had underlying complications, such as hypertension, CAD, type 2 diabetes mellites and tumor. The peak value of TnI in critical patients is 40-fold more than normal value. 2 patients in the critical group had the onset of atrial fibrillation, and the peak heart rates reached up to 160 bpm. CT scan showed low EAT density in severe and critical patients. Conclusion Our results indicated that cardiac injury of COVID-2019 was rare in light and mild patients, while common in severe and critical patients. Therefore, the monitoring of the heart functions of COVID-2019 patients and applying potential interventions for those with abnormal cardiac injury related characteristics, is vital to prevent the fatality.

TL;DR: The C2HEST score performed well in discriminating the individual risk of developing incident AF in a white European population hospitalized with previous ischemic stroke and may potentially be used as a risk stratification tool for decision making in relation to a screening strategy for AF in post–ischemic stroke patients.
Abstract: Background The C2HEST score (coronary artery disease or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease [1 point each]; hypertension [1 point]; elderly [age ≥75 years, 2 points]; systolic heart failure [2 points]; thyroid disease [hyperthyroidism, 1 point]) was initially proposed for predicting incident atrial fibrillation (AF) in the general population. Its performance in poststroke patients remains to be established, especially because patients at high risk for incident AF should be targeted for more comprehensive screening. This study aimed to evaluate this newly established incident AF prediction risk score in a post-ischemic stroke population. Methods and Results Validation was based on a hospital-based nationwide cohort with 240 459 French post-ischemic stroke patients. Kaplan-Meier curves for incident rate of AF depict differences between varying risk categories. Discrimination of the C2HEST score was evaluated using the C index, the net reclassification index, integrated discriminatory improvement, and decision curve analysis. During 7.9±11.5 months of follow-up, 14 095 patients developed incident AF. The incidence of AF increased from 23.5 per 1000 patient-years in patients with a C2HEST score of 0 to 196.8 per 1000 patient-years in patients with a C2HEST score ≥6. Kaplan-Meier curves showed a clear difference among different risk strata (log-rank P<0.0001). The C2HEST score had good discrimination with a C index of 0.734 (95% CI, 0.732-0.736), which was better than the Framingham risk score and the CHA2DS2-VASc score (congestive heart failure, hypertension, age ≥75 [doubled], diabetes mellitus, stroke [doubled], vascular disease, age 65 to 74 years, and female sex) ( P<0.0001, respectively). The C2HEST score was also superior to the Framingham risk score and the CHA2DS2-VASc score as shown by the net reclassification index, integrated discriminatory improvement ( P<0.0001, respectively) and decision curve analysis. Conclusions The C2HEST score performed well in discriminating the individual risk of developing incident AF in a white European population hospitalized with previous ischemic stroke. This simple score may potentially be used as a risk stratification tool for decision making in relation to a screening strategy for AF in post-ischemic stroke patients.

TL;DR: Hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) activity in China was surveyed to assess its current status and showed continued growth in transplant activity, a continued rapid increase in haploidentical donors (HID), and slower growth for unrelated donors, matched-related donors (MRD), and cord blood transplantation(CBT).
Abstract: Hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) activity in China was surveyed to assess its current status. A record number of HCTs (21 884: 16 631 allogeneic (76%) and 5253 autologous (24%)) were reported by 76 centers in China between 1 January 2008 and 30 June 2016. HCT trends included continued growth in transplant activity, a continued rapid increase in haploidentical donors (HID), and slower growth for unrelated donors, matched-related donors (MRD) and cord blood transplantation (CBT). The proportion of HID HCT among allogeneic HCTs increased from 29.6% (313/1062) in 2008 to 48.8% (1939/3975) in 2015, even 51.7% (1157/2237) in the first half of 2016. During this time frame, the proportion of MRD HCTs among allogeneic HCTs decreased from 48.1% (511/1062) to 33.0% (332/3975). The proportion of unrelated donor HCTs among allogeneic HCTs decreased from 20.4 (216/1062) to 13.6% (540/3975). The proportion of CBTs among allogeneic HCTs was increased from 2.1% (22/1062) to 4.2% (184/3975). HCTs have been increasing continuously for all indications except chronic myelogenous leukemia. Severe aplastic anemia is a common HCT indication among non-malignant diseases in China. The number of cases of allogeneic HCT for this disorder has increased annually, from 59 (5.6%) in 2008 to 569 (14.3%) in 2015, even 334 (14.9%) in the first half year in 2016. This survey clearly shows recent trends for HCTs in China.

TL;DR: This study reviews the different sex‐linked genes and loci on the X‐ and Y chromosome leading to syndromic and especially non‐syndromic hearing loss.
Abstract: Many human syndromes associated with hearing loss are caused by disease genes located on the X chromosome, but few X-linked loci for non-syndromic hearing loss have been reported. Surprisingly, a Y-linked locus has been identified, representing one of the only disease loci on the Y chromosome. This study reviews the different sex-linked genes and loci on the X- and Y chromosome leading to syndromic and especially non-syndromic hearing loss.
