TL;DR: Positioning theory as discussed by the authors opens up a new dimension in the psychology of interpersonal encounters, through explicit attention to the role of rights and duties in the management of action, where people are positioned or position themselves with respect to rights and duty to act within evolving story-lines, and on the basis of claims about relevant personal attributes, the discursive process of prepositioning.
Abstract: Positioning theory opens up a new dimension in the psychology of interpersonal encounters, through explicit attention to the role of rights and duties in the management of action. People are positioned or position themselves with respect to rights and duties to act within evolving story-lines, and on the basis of claims about relevant personal attributes, the discursive process of prepositioning. Some recent applications of positioning theory are presented, ranging from simple interpersonal encounters, through positioning in a complex public but limited legal struggle, to the positioning techniques used to justify civilian causalities in warfare, to the analysis of examples of the discourses by which large-scale social entities position themselves in relation to others.

TL;DR: A comprehensive review of the empirical literature in transaction cost economics (TCE) across multiple social science disciplines and business fields can be found in this paper, where the authors show how TCE has branched out from its economic roots to examine empirical phenomena in several other areas.
Abstract: This paper provides a comprehensive review of the empirical literature in transaction cost economics (TCE) across multiple social science disciplines and business fields. We show how TCE has branched out from its economic roots to examine empirical phenomena in several other areas. We find TCE is increasingly being applied not only to business-related fields such as accounting, finance, marketing, and organizational theory, but also to areas outside of business including political science, law, public policy, and agriculture and health. With few exceptions, however, the use of TCE reasoning to inform empirical research in these areas is piecemeal. We find that there is considerable support of many of the central tenets of TCE, but we also observe a number of lingering theoretical and empirical issues that need to be addressed. We conclude by discussing the implications of these issues and outlining directions for future theoretical and empirical work.

TL;DR: The Uterine Fibroid Symptom and Quality of Life (UFS‐QOL) questionnaire subscales discriminated not only from normal controls but also among leiomyomata patients with varying degrees of symptom severity, and appears to be a useful new tool for detecting differences in symptom severity and health‐related quality of life among patients with uterine leiomata.
