TL;DR: The results indicated that the inhibitory effect of TBA-RS formation and the DPPH-radical scavenging of LXSS were correlated with the contents of ginsenosides, and it showed that the starch content in GG was higher than that of NXSS whose starch decreased gradually with the growing year.

TL;DR: In this article, five new compounds, including stilbene derived glycosides, one novel arylbenzofuran derivative, and one new coumarin glycoside, along with ten known compounds were isolated from the H2O extract of the bark of Morus alba L.
Abstract: Five new compounds, including three new stilbene-derived glycosides, one novel arylbenzofuran derivative, and one new coumarin glycoside, along with ten known compounds were isolated from the H2O extract of the bark of Morus alba L. The new compounds were assigned to the structures of 4′-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-2′-hydroxyresveratrol 3-(6-O-β-D-apiofuranosyl-β-D-glucopyranoside) (1), 4′-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-2′-hydroxyresveratrol 3-(6-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-β-D-glucopyranoside) (2), 3-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-2′-hydroxyresveratrol 4′-(6-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-β-D-glucopyranoside) (3), moracin M 6-(β-D-glucopyranoside) (4), and 5,7-dihydroxycoumarin 7-(6-O-β-D-apiofuranosyl-β-D-glucopyranoside) (5) by spectroscopic means, and acid and enzymatic hydrolyses. Three compounds, 2′-hydroxyresveratrol 2′-(β-D-glucopyranoside) (7), moracin M 3′-(β-D-glucopyranoside) (8), and 6,7-dihydroxycoumarin 7-(6-O-α-rhamnopyranosyl-β-D-glucopyranoside) (9), were found for the first time in Morus alba.

TL;DR: In this paper, the essential oil of Cinnamomum camphora leaves was found to possess strong fumigant and contact toxicity against Lasioderma serricorne adults with LC50/LD50 values of 2.36 and 18.25μg/adult, respectively.
Abstract: During our screening program for agrochemicals from Chinese medicinal herbs and wild plants, the essential oil of Cinnamomum camphora leaves was found to possess strong fumigant and contact toxicity against Lasioderma serricorne adults with LC50/LD50 values of 2.5 mg/L air and 21.25 μg/adult, respectively. The essential oil obtained by hydrodistillation was investigated by GC and GC-MS. The main components of the essential oil were identified to be D-camphor (40.54%), linalool (22.92%), cineole (11.26%), and 3,7,11-trimethyl-3-hydroxy-6,10-dodecadien-1-yl acetate (4.50%). Bioactivity-directed chromatographic separation on repeated silica gel columns led to the isolation of D-camphor and linalool. D-camphor and linalool showed strong fumigant toxicity (LC50 = 2.36 and 18.04 mg/L air, resp.) and contact toxicity (LD50 = 13.44 and 12.74 μg/adult, resp.) against L. serricorne. The results indicate that the essential oil of C. camphora and its active compounds had the potential to be developed as natural fumigants and insecticides for control of L. serricorne.

TL;DR: Arctigenin effectively provides protection against learning and memory deficits and in inhibits hyperphosphorylated tau protein expression in the hippocampus.
Abstract: Arctigenin is a phenylpropanoid dibenzylbutyrolactone lignan compound possessing antitumor, anti-inflammatory, anti-influenza, antioxidant, antibacterial, and hypoglycaemic activities. Our previous study demonstrated that arctigenin exerts neuroprotective effects both in vitro and in vivo in a Parkinsonʼs disease model. However, the exact mechanism through which arctigenin improves amyloid beta-induced memory impairment by inhibiting the production of the hyperphosphorylated tau protein is unknown. Amyloid β 1–42 was slowly administered via the intracerebroventricular route in a volume of 3 µL (≈ 410 pmmol/mouse) to mice. The mice were administered arctigenin (10, 40, or 150 mg/kg) or vehicle starting from the second day after amyloid β 1–42 injection to the end of the experiment. Behavioural tests were performed from days 9 to 15. On day 16 after the intracerebroventricular administration of amyloid β 1–42 , the mice were sacrificed for biochemical analysis. Arctigenin (10–150 mg/kg) significantly attenuated the impairment of spontaneous alternation behaviours in the Y-maze task, decreased the escape latency in the Morris water maze test, and increased the swimming times and swimming distances to the platform located in the probe test. Arctigenin attenuated the level of phosphorylated tau at the Thr-181, Thr-231, and Ser-404 sites in the hippocampus, and increased the phosphorylation levels of phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase, threonine/serine protein kinase B, and glycogen synthase kinase-3 β . Arctigenin effectively provides protection against learning and memory deficits and in inhibits hyperphosphorylated tau protein expression in the hippocampus. The possible mechanism may occur via the phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase/protein kinase B-dependent glycogen synthase kinase-3 β signalling pathway.
