TL;DR: An enriched biogeography-based optimization (EBBO) technique to crack the economic power dispatch (EPD) problem of coal-fired generating units, which involves the complex limitations including valve point loading effects, transmission line losses, and ramp rate limits.
Abstract: This article offers an enriched biogeography-based optimization (EBBO) technique to crack the economic power dispatch (EPD) problem of coal-fired generating units. The considered EPD involves the complex limitations including valve point loading effects, transmission line losses, and ramp rate limits. The geographical smattering of biological species is the vital scope of this algorithm. The proposed EBBO describes the arousal, enhanced migration of species from one environment to another. The algorithm has two main steps specifically, migration and mutation. These steps are involved in searching the global optimum solution. The EBBO’s efficiency has been verified on 13 and 40 generating test systems. The proposed technique produces superior results when compared with the conventional biogeography-based optimization (BBO) and other prevailing techniques. Also, it gives the quality and promising results for solving the EPD problems. Further, it can be applied for practical power system.

TL;DR: This chapter is the study of various IoT applications in smart cities based on the literature survey method.
Abstract: The term Internet of Things was coined a decade ago, but every day a slight part of its burgeoning ecosystem becomes an element in our lives. Industrial devices, consumer products, utility items, automobiles, sensors, and different everyday components are being combined with web connectivity and powerful information analytic capabilities that promise to remodel the lifestyle of people. The connectivity of humans, objects, and machines with the Internet is increasing, which results in the emergence of smart cities that bridge the physical and virtual world. IoT applications in smart cities such as energy management, agriculture, industrialization, transport, environment, safety, utilities, health, communities, commerce, tourism, and entertainment bring immense value into our everyday lives. This chapter is the study of various IoT applications in smart cities based on the literature survey method. The rapid growth of IoT has opened up vast new opportunities for users to look beyond their conventional industrial horizons.

TL;DR: Simulation results are presented to prove that the MRAC based model is capable of speed tracking as well as reduce the effect of parameter variations, and to solve the problems of non-linearity, parameter variations and load excursions that occur in BLDC motor drive systems.
Abstract: This paper presents the development and performance analysis of model reference adaptive controller using Artificial Neural Network (ANN) for Brushless DC motor (BLDC) drives. The model reference adaptive systems (MRAS) have a parameter adjustment mechanism along with the normal feedback loop and hence give better solutions when there are variations in process parameters. Neural networks (NNs) with their inherent parallelism, learning capabilities and fault tolerance have proven to be a promising solution in estimating and controlling nonlinear systems. This paper combines a MRAS with ANN to solve the problems of non-linearity, parameter variations and load excursions that occur in BLDC motor drive systems. The performance of the traditional PID controller based speed control method is compared with the model reference based speed control for BLDC motor drive system using MATLAB Simulink software. Simulation results are presented to prove that the MRAC based model is capable of speed tracking as well as reduce the effect of parameter variations.

TL;DR: A hybrid Interference cancellation (HIC) technique employing both Parallel and Successive Interference Cancellation (PIC/SIC) is proposed for Overloaded Direct Sequence Code Division Multiple Access (OCDMA) system under imperfect synchronization.
Abstract: A hybrid Interference cancellation (HIC) technique employing both Parallel and Successive Interference Cancellation (PIC/SIC) is proposed for Overloaded Direct Sequence Code Division Multiple Access (OCDMA) system under imperfect synchronization. Two types of receivers are proposed to efficiently mitigate the multiuser interference (MUI). In type I receiver, the MUI within group-1 users are first cancelled using Parallel Interference Cancellation (PIC). Then the multistage Successive Interference Cancellation (m-SIC) is performed on the resultant output of PIC to efficiently cancel the interference of group-2 users on group-1 users. The type II receiver is designed by performing PIC immediately followed by SIC and this combined process is repeated till a major chunk of multi user interference is cancelled. The BER performance of type II receiver is proved to be better than other cancellation techniques such as PIC, SIC and the proposed type I receiver.

TL;DR: In this paper, the corrosion behavior of ZnO-Mg coatings on AISI 4140 steel using spray coating technology is investigated using optical microscope, scanning electron microscope, x-ray diffraction analysis, atomic force microscope and energy-dispersive spectroscopy analysis.
Abstract: This paper aims to investigate the corrosion behavior of ZnO-Mg coatings on AISI 4140 steel using spray coating technology. Three different coating thicknesses of approximately ≈ 30, 60 and 90 µm are considered in this study. The structural and morphological properties of the coated samples are characterized using optical microscope, scanning electron microscope (SEM), x-ray diffraction analysis, atomic force microscope and energy-dispersive spectroscopy analysis. The corrosion behavior is evaluated in a chloride environment by Tafel and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques as a function of coating thickness. The acquired results exhibit that the introduction of ZnO-Mg coating improves corrosion resistance of AISI 4140. ZnO-Mg coating acts as a stabilizer in the electrolyte and maintains electrochemical stability. After prolonged polarization, the coating exhibits higher impedance in the subsequent EIS results compared to that of the substrate. The corroded surfaces of AISI 4140 are analyzed using SEM for surface morphological changes.
